Our DSPs are the heart of what we do. 💙

They show up every day, build relationships, celebrate victories, work through challenges, and make sure the people we serve are supported, valued, and respected.

The truth is simple: without our DSPs, we could not fulfill our mission.

Their work matters. Their presence matters. The relationships they build matter. And the difference they make in someone’s life often goes far beyond what can be seen in a job description.

To every DSP on our team: We see you. We appreciate you. And we are incredibly grateful for everything you bring to the people we serve and to Daniels Place.

You don’t just help us carry out our mission...you are the reason our mission comes to life.

💬 Now we want to hear from you! Has a DSP made a difference in your life or the life of someone you love? Are you a coworker who has seen a DSP go above and beyond?

Share your story, a favorite memory, or simply leave a “THANK YOU” in the comments below. Let’s fill the comments with some well-deserved appreciation for the amazing people who make our mission possible every day!

We officially have a roof over our heads...well, the start of one! 😉

Another exciting milestone is taking shape at Daniels Place, and we can’t help but feel incredibly grateful as we watch this vision become a reality.

This building includes our main care area, kitchen, laundry room, changing room, six bedrooms, storage room, quiet room, restrooms, and more!
It may look like lumber and trusses right now, but to us, it represents so much more - a place for our guests to truly feel at home when away from home.

We are incredibly thankful for every person who has donated, supported, encouraged, prayed for, volunteered, worked on, or simply believed in Daniels Place. Every beam going up is another reminder that we could not build this place without the amazing community standing behind it.

“Great things are built one small piece at a time and never alone.”

Piece by piece, room by room, and now...roof by roof, Daniels Place is becoming a reality. And our hearts are just as full as this building is becoming. 💙
We are so grateful and SO excited for what’s still to come!

Some of our leadership team is spending today investing in growth at the Global Leadership Summit because we believe that the best way to serve others is to never stop learning.

Representing Daniel’s Place are our Founder & Board Chair Cheryl Working, Board Secretary Heather Cruz, Respite Care Supervisor Katie Cumberland, and Associate Executive Director Chloe Steele.

We are committed to growing as leaders so we can continue strengthening our mission, supporting our incredible staff, and providing the highest quality care to the individuals and families we serve.

When we grow, Daniel’s Place grows. That growth means even greater opportunities to make a difference in our community.

The numbers don’t add up. 🏡👩‍🦽✨

Image description: a bright green infographic illustrates the mismatch between the number of Americans with mobility disabilities and the availability of wheelchair-accessible housing.

Across the top are three stylized illustrations of people with mobility disabilities. On the left, a red-haired person sits in a manual wheelchair holding a reddish-brown box. In the center, a person with short purple hair stands using a pair of forearm crutches. On the right, a person wearing a green shirt with triangle patterns and yellow shorts uses a wheelchair while leaning forward with one arm extended.

Centered beneath the illustrations, large dark blue text reads: “Approximately 13% of the US population has a mobility-related disability.”

Below the text are three simple house icons in purple, red, and teal, representing homes.

At the bottom, large dark blue text states: “Yet, less than 1% homes in the US are wheelchair accessible.”

Along the right edge of the graphic, the handle, “.”

This week, the walls have began to rise, and with them, so did the dream we've been building together- the future home of Daniel's Place.

Right now, it's a construction site. But soon, it will be so much more. It will be a place where laughter fills the rooms, friendships grow, caregivers find the rest they need, and every guest is welcomed with dignity, joy, and love.

This home is being built one board at a time, just as this mission has been built one family, one volunteer, one prayer, and one generous gift at a time.

Thank you for believing in this dream. Because of you, we're not just building a house-we're building hope. We're building a place where families can breathe, where lives are changed, and where everyone who walks through the door knows they belong.

The walls are going up, but the real foundation has always been this incredible community.

Welcome home. 🏡💙

During this Disability Pride Month, it’s a great time to remember our history. In 2024 PBS Fort Wayne premiered The Forgotten, a documentary on the former State Developmental Institution that was right here in Fort Wayne. This serves as a reminder of where we came from and how, when we knew better, we did better! We can’t go back; we must continue to embrace community integration.

To watch the documentary: https://tr.ee/AGkefx

Image Description: Graphic showing the title card for a PBS Fort Wayne documentary. Large brown text reads, "The Forgotten," with the subtitle, "A History of the State Developmental Institutions in Fort Wayne." The background features a sepia-toned historic photograph of the original Fort Wayne State Developmental Center campus, showing a large institutional building with surrounding grounds and many people gathered outside. The PBS Fort Wayne logo appears in the lower left corner above the text, "An Exclusive Documentary Production From PBS Fort Wayne."

Building Update!

We are excited to share that all of the underground work has been completed, and the concrete has officially been poured. After months of watching progress happen below the surface, we’re finally getting to the exciting part—the building itself!

This new building couldn’t come at a better time. Our current facility is at capacity, and we currently have a waiting list for both overnight respite stays and new guests because we simply don’t have the space to meet the growing need.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this project. Every milestone brings us one step closer to serving more families in our community!
