Dear Friends and CCL (concealed carry licencees),

It has come to my attention that the application fee for the concealed carry license in Arkansas is waived if you are a veteran, but I can't find a veteran or anyone that has had their application fee waived by the Arkansas State Police (ASP). Frustrating and outrageous opinions by the petty potentates at the ASP only fueled my concern when I applied to renew my CCL, the ASP told me that the waiver of the fee only applies to initial applications, not renewals. What the heck kind of government controlled world are we living in when the government cannot abide by the laws written by the people. This is so simple. Arkansas law is pasted below:

§5-73-311. Application procedure.
(a) The applicant for a license to carry a concealed handgun shall submit the following to the Division of Arkansas State Police:
(1) A completed application, as described in § 5-73-310;
(2) A nonrefundable license fee of fifty dollars ($50.00), except that:
(A) The nonrefundable license fee is twenty-five dollars ($25.00) if the applicant is sixty-five (65) years of age or older; and
(B) (i) There is no license fee if the applicant is a United States Armed Forces veteran or is currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
(ii) An applicant shall submit a copy of his or her DD214 or similar document or valid military identification card to establish eligibility under subdivision (a)(2)(B)(i) of this section;

So, I am looking for some help from veterans and CCL's of Arkansas. I want to know if you as a veteran and a CCL knows of anyone that has had their application fee waived and if your renewal fee was waived based on your veteran status?

The online renewal process via the ASP website "ask if you are a veteran", but takes you straight to the pay wall to pay for your license.

Oh, and by the way, the ASP says the waiver only applies to initial application fee, not the renewal. We will see about that in court!

Please repost and PM me if you are a veteran and a CCL and have not had your CCL license fees waived in Arkansas.

The ASP has collected over $14,000,000 dollars of your hard earned money so that you can exercise your 2nd Amendment rights. See chart below:

Period Total
FY17 $2,877,960.00
FY18 $3,126,010.00
FY19 $2,314,365.00

FY21 $ 2,183,480.00
FY22 $1,041,171.00
FY23 $1,097,772.65

Total: >$14.1M in fees to get a CCL, that does not include training

The walleye at the top of this trophy case was caught in 1982 by Al Nelson of Higden during a tournament sponsored by Pepsi Cola and Fairfield Bay on Greer's Ferry Lake. The weight was 22 pounds 11 ounces. A new state record, it replaced a 21 pound 12 ounce runt caught in 1979 on the same lake. And…
