And I mean beyond work, the bills, and everything you keep showing up to handle. How are YOU?

Thank you to ML Community Magazine (ML Magazine )for highlighting my story and the work of The G.D.T. Foundation in its Fall 2026 issue.

This work is personal. I know what it feels like to look fine while struggling. I also know the pain of losing my brother, Jeremy. But I want people to remember his life, too. He was funny. He was loved. And he will always be my brother.

Through The Recalibration Retreat, we’re creating room for honest conversations, professional support, and the chance to put something down before it becomes too much to carry.

Being featured means a lot. Someone reading this and deciding to ask for help would mean even more.

Because you showed up, gave and believed in the mission, the 2nd Annual Recalibration Retreat is happening.

Thank you to every attendee, sponsor and donor who supported the 7th Annual THOROUGHBRED: The Black Derby. Your generosity is creating a free space for people to pause, unpack what they have been carrying and receive real mental health support.

This work is deeply personal to me. My own mental health journey and the loss of my brother Jeremy continue to remind me that people need safe spaces, honest conversations and practical tools for healing.

The retreat is open to adults ages 21–45. A separate one-day retreat for ages 17–22 will be announced later.

Applications go live October 2.

Every year, y’all ask us the same question: “Will there be REAL horses at The Black Derby?”

And every year, the answer is YES! Thank you to our official horse sponsors Arkansas Cowboys

As a reminder, these horses are domesticated, not wild, but they are still large animals with minds of their own. Please remain mindful, move carefully, and follow every instruction given by their handlers.

All guests are welcome to take pictures, stand alongside them and, when permitted by the handler, give them a hug. It’s all included with your event admission, so come ready to capture the moment!

Seven years.

That sentence alone humbles me.

Every logo on this flyer represents someone who looked at our mission and decided it was worth investing in. Not because they had to. Not because there was something waiting on the other side for them. They gave because they believe that Black mental health matters. They believe our young people matter. They believe healing deserves a seat at the table.

Scripture says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)

I’ve come to understand that verse differently over the years. Being a cheerful giver isn’t about the size of the check. It’s about the posture of the heart. It’s choosing generosity when it would be easier to hold on. It’s seeing a need and deciding, “I’ll help carry this.”

To every business, organization, and individual who said yes to sponsoring the 7th Annual THOROUGHBRED: thank you. You aren’t just helping us put on an event. You’re helping us fund therapy-centered programming, create spaces where people can breathe again, and continue the work of The G.D.T. Foundation long after the music stops and the last guest goes home.

I also want to say thank you to the sponsors whose names you won’t see on this flyer because they asked to give quietly. I respect that more than you know. Jesus spoke about giving without seeking recognition, and your generosity reflects that spirit. Your fingerprints are on this event even if your logo isn’t, and I pray God blesses you openly for what you’ve chosen to do privately.

There is still a lot of work ahead before September 12, but one thing is already certain: this community showed up.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in us. Thank you for believing in healing. Thank you for believing in people you’ll probably never meet.

We don’t take a single dollar, a single prayer, or a single act of support for granted.

We’ll do our part to be faithful stewards of every gift we’ve been entrusted with.
