The Day I Was Capped

The cap was placed.

A crown of white.
Not a crown of wealth.
Not a crown of power.

But a crown of responsibility.

A silent promise
to carry the fragile,
to comfort the broken,
and to stand between fear and hope.

In that moment,
I felt the presence of every nurse before me

the hands that held before mine,

the hearts that served before mine,

the footsteps that built the path
I was now chosen to walk.

They whispered through time:

"Carry this well."

Because that day was never just a ceremony.

It was a transformation.

The person who entered
was not the same one who left.

A vow was placed upon my shoulders.

A legacy was placed within my hands.

A calling was written into my soul.

I would learn to walk through midnight storms,

to hold tears I could not fix,

to comfort lives I could not always save.

I became part of a story
written by sacrifice,
compassion,
and courage.

A line of nurses
who bend under the weight,

but never break.

And whenever the world feels heavy,

I remember that day

the day I was capped.

Because the cap may be removed,

the uniform may fade,

but the oath remains.

Forever carried.
Forever lived.
Forever a nurse.
