After three trials on Sunday at Prairie Meadows, first-time starter Jess A Lil Whiskey posted the fastest qualifying time for the $140,000-estimated Hawkeye Futurity (R) for Iowa-breds. Running in the final trial, the 27-1 longshot powered home to a dominating 2 ¼-length victory and returned $56.60 for a $2 win bet. Ridden by Mario Delgado for trainer Tony Jones, the c**t by Flying Cowboy 123 earned a 94 speed index for his 330-yard dash in :16.797.
Bred by HK Performance Horses and owned by Jose Antonio Villegas and Jim Kobett, Jess A Lil Whiskey earned $8,731 for his maiden-breaking win. The c**t is out of the Valiant Hero mare Jess Valiant.
Thomas Scheckel’s homebred TS Cyber Flash, a gelding by Cyber Monday, won the first heat with the second-fastest qualifying time of :16.900. The Fernando Manriquez trainee came into the trials after a maiden victory at Re*****on Park and a fourth-place effort in a Heritage Place Futurity (G1) trial.
