Edward Haines, a Marine SIGINT veteran, explains how weird language tests and weeks of silence at MCRD ended with five recruits pulled into a room to meet a special recruiter most Marines never learn exists infantry contracts and all.

In the Marine Corps, talent gets noticed even when you don’t know you’re being tested. Some doors only open if your scores are good enough. The contract you sign is not always the career you get.

Nine months at sea. 208 days without touching land. Today Las Vegas answered with a room full of volunteers and a pile of boxes.

We said we’d post the outcome. Here it is. Morale kits packed for the Sailors and Marines of the USS Abraham Lincoln, ni****ne, protein, caffeine, snacks, hygiene, the things families said were hardest to get. Coordinated through the ship’s ombudsman networks, not blind boxes into a broken mail system. Legendary Foods shipped without being asked. The Navy Secretary asked America for a Hero’s Welcome, Vegas started early.

Bravo Zulu, CVN 72. Get home safe.

Friday the Acting Navy Secretary announced the return and called the coverage “dishonest” in the same statement. The same statement that confirms mental health cases were treated aboard and meals were adjusted when resupply failed. We put his words on slide 6, unedited. Read them yourself.

And before anyone calls this partisan: Bataan 2011. Lincoln 2020. Eisenhower 2024. Ford this spring. Four presidencies, both parties, same math. This isn’t about who’s in office. It’s about who’s on the ship.

The crew performed. The families told the truth. Pick nothing. Hold both.

Bruce Cardenas, a Marine, an LAPD officer sworn in January of 1988, and the bodyguard trusted by Mariah Carey and J-Lo, started out as the kid a five-man police department wouldn’t hire.

He’d done ride-alongs through high school in a New Jersey steel mill town of 1,200 people. Graduated. Walked into the chief’s office and said he was ready. The chief told him he was young, dumb and immature then pointed him at the Marine Corps. He didn’t know a single Marine. His dad was a Vietnam vet and the whole family was Army. He went anyway. Most people spend their lives resenting the door that closed on them. The ones who make it learn to hear where it was pointing and that hearing lasts long after the uniform comes off.
