ATTENTION ALIANTE HOMEOWNERS AND RESIDENTS

We want to remind you that there will be a Community Meeting tonight, Monday, April 29th, at 5:30 PM at the Aliante Library regarding the commercial lot on the northwest corner of Aliante Parkway and Elkhorn. The developer is proposing to build a Wendy’s, Starbucks, Wingstop, 3 additional tenants, and Jackpot Joanie’s. The proposal for Jackpot Joanie’s has been withdrawn without prejudice, but a similar or like establishment is to be expected.

A group of residents proposed a Trader Joe’s be the anchor tenant. They received over 1,000 signatures on their online petition within the first few days. Councilmen Scott Black and Richard Cherchio may be in attendance. Many members of the city planning commission, the attorney, and the president of the developer, American Nevada, will also be attending.

Wherever you stand on this last plot of land to be developed within Aliante, this is your opportunity to let your voice be heard.

It saddens me that our dear friend and treasurer of Aliante Cares, Anita Wood passed away September 23rd, 2023. She was a force of nature who fought for homeowners as a fellow homeowner, city council member, and volunteer for countless organizations. She will be truly missed.

I received an email from Jeff Alpert, the Alliance Secretary.
"The North Las Vegas Alliance of Concerned Citizens held a monthly meeting on September 19. Their featured speakers were NLV Police Chief Jackie Gravatt and Assistant Chief Michael Harris. The two of them covered many topics of importance concerning their department and public safety. Their department continues to support a policy of community engagement through social media and appearance at events. National Night Out will occur on October 3 at Desert Horizons Park. The Citizen's Academy now has a full time paid coordinator. A 5-week summer academy was held and currently some 20 volunteers are working throughout the police department. Classes have been initiated to offer employees training in "emotional intelligence" so they can cope with their job and tough situations that may arise. Female employment in the department stands at 12% and the goal is to reach 30% by 2030. Our city offers impressive monetary incentives for officers to transfer to the NLVPD. Some 26 officers are now in field training and another 26 are in the police academy. Hopefully, the new police command station will be operational by the end of the year at Deer Springs and Revere with 70 officers. Chief Gravatt and Assistant Chief Harris answered many pertinent questions from the attendees. We thank them for their attendance and presentation.

We also heard from Jessica West from Congressional District 4. She discussed how Congressman Horsford has been supporting federal funds for rural and indigenous areas so their needs can be met as well as securing broadband connectivity. Also 3 to 4 student interns are working in the CD4 office one day per week.

Their next meeting will be on October 17."

Announcement from protectors of Tule Springs.
NVEnergy has requested approval of a right-of-way to construct, operate and maintain a system of transmission facilities and associated infrastructure that would transmit electricity between Northern Nevada and the Harry Allen Substation in Clark County – known as the Greenlink West. The Bureau of Land Management has issued its draft Environmental Impact Study (EIS) recommending that eleven 180-ft power poles be placed within the boundaries of the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument (TUSK) for a 1 1/2 mile length. While Protecotrs recognizes the need to develop clean energy resources, it’s important that we protect important places while planning for a renewable future.
We NEED the voices of all our members and supporters to help deliver this message to the Department of Interior as it considers the EIS. You can help by making your voice heard at the upcoming public meeting, Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 5-7 PM at the Aliante Hotel & Casino (Scottsdale Ballroom A&B).
The following are the major points that Protectors believes the BLM needs to consider, which arediscussed in more detail in the factsheet linked at the end of this email:
America’s National Parks and National Monuments are important places that are enjoyed by millions.
The Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument protects scientifically important fossils and desert habitat for plants, animals, and people to enjoy.
NV Energy has asked NPS to allow it to build the Greenlink energy transmission line ON the monument.
In 2014, Congress gave NV Energy a power corridor – now they say it isn’t enough.
NV Energy’s plan requires bulldozing, boring, and drilling to install 8-11 enormous power poles on NPS land.
There are numerous suspected fossils in the installation area as shown by ground penetrating radar.
Construction of the power corridor and placement of the poles will permanently damage fossils.The power lines will detract from mountain vistas and quiet enjoyment of this outdoor space.
NV Energy hasn’t provided an acceptable plan to remedy this damage.
Proper excavation and storage of the fossils will cost millions of dollars.
The BLM didn’t fully explore alternatives or consider the real cost.
Alternatives exist that would lessen or eliminate the impact.Alternative “D” reconfigures the existing poles to carry more energy, avoiding the excavation of NPS land.
Alternative “F” runs Greenlink along CC 215, avoiding the monument and protecting our fossils, the environment, and the views.
The BLM should revise its impact study to further explore these options and the true costs of proper remediation.
