Annnnnnnnd….. now without further ado…… What Rhymes with Spaghetti

What a weekend for Team STING-R 5098!

Thursday afternoon, we headed to Des Moines, Iowa, for Clash of the Corn and this trip kept us on our toes! Rental car issues, a missing hotel reservation, a medical emergency, and stubborn wiring and connection problems put our teamwork to the test.

But this team kept showing up for each other. They troubleshot, adapted, and climbed from LAST PLACE to earning a 2nd alliance spot and finishing the competition in SECOND PLACE!

And because our talents extend beyond building robots… we also brought home the Spaghetti Award thanks to some seriously impressive freestyle rapping!

We even squeezed in a delicious meal at Zombie Burger and made plenty of memories along the way.

We are incredibly proud of our students and mentors. Through every curveball, they worked together, supported one another, and refused to let the setbacks define their weekend. That’s resilience. That’s teamwork. That’s STING-R.

What a rollercoaster! This weekend, STING-R went to Clash In The Corn, in West Des Moines, Iowa! We fought rental mixups, hotel glitches, health issues, and a robot that tried to fight us after every match. Despite that, the team was solid. We tried new things. We met new friends. Had a TON of fun. We won the coveted Spaghetti award with a rap (think Eminem) from our human player! In the end, we were picked to play on the second place alliance! Our alliance consisted of FRC Team Neutrino #3928, FRC Team 5837 Unity4Tech, and backup team 9978. After several hard fought rounds, we made it to the finals! Unfortunately, during match 1, our robot snagged a radio wire and ate it--killing our bot. We had to bow out the next match, and watch from the sidelines as our alliance JUST came up short. Either way, we had a ton of fun, and we would love to come back next year! In other firsts, Staley Robotics had a solid showing--finishing qualification matches in 1st place! PICTURES COMING SOON!

Team STING-R just finished their annual free STEM camp for incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th graders! The campers built paper towers, built VEX robots designed to pull other robots (think: tractor pull), and built (then launched) their 2 liter bottle rockets! Videos in the comments.

Last Thursday, STING-R had the opportunity to tour one of our sponsors, Atlas Tube! We also got to show off Michael Scott, our robot for this year! Thank you for showing us how the machines work, and what kind of projects are being worked on--right here in Kansas City! Watching the forming machines take a piece of steel and roll it into position, then weld it (and remove the over weld) is amazing! NKC Journalism, Geralynn Baxter, Louis B. Breinin
