In early September, Sioux Falls Noon Sertoma Club shared:

"Our 2026 Hearing Testing Crew kicked things off at Discovery School! Last year, Sioux Falls Noon Sertoma helped provide hearing screenings to more than 9,000 kids in our community...This is Sertoma in action. Our members show up, volunteer their time, and help make sure thousands of local kids have access to hearing screenings each year.

We’re pretty proud of this crew and even prouder of what Sioux Falls Noon Sertoma continues to do for our community! Here’s to another 9,000+ kids in 2026!"

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day. Many people with living with hearing loss face social isolation, depression and other mental health diagnoses. These resources from DeafLEAD can help you or your loved one get the assistance they need.

988, the national number for mental health crises in the United States, also provides videophone and text services, with volunteers specially trained to support the deaf and hard of hearing.

Sometimes, expanding access to hearing health starts by bringing care directly to people. Sertoma Affiliate The Emerge Center in Louisiana is doing just that through its Sound of Hope initiative, bringing hearing screenings, education and connections to care into local schools, businesses and community organizations.

The program also aims to provide hearing technology to people experiencing significant hearing and financial need, helping remove one of the barriers that can keep people from getting the support they need.

BATON ROUGE — The Emerge Center is expanding its Sound of Hope initiative this fall tohelp more people in the community recognize, address and overcome the barriers created byhearing loss.

Last month, the Sertoma of Greater Grand Forks shared that their group had volunteered to prepare boxes for local seniors through North Country Food Bank's Commodity Supplemental Food Program.

"This program supports low-income seniors by supplementing their diets with nutritious foods each month.

In just 45 minutes, our 15¼ volunteers packed:
📦 160 boxes
🥫 4 pallets of food
⚖️ Approximately 5,280 pounds of food

Each box will go to a senior living within North Country Food Bank’s 21 county service area. With more than 1,200 seniors participating in the program at any given time, we were grateful for the opportunity to lend a hand and support such an important service in our region."

Communication is at the heart of connection, and the Lima Noon Sertoma Club is helping make sure more patients have a way to be heard. 💙💛

The club donated 14 iPads to Mercy Health St. Rita’s speech therapy department, giving patients who have difficulty communicating another way to connect with medical staff, caregivers and loved ones. The devices can help children, stroke patients and others who are temporarily or permanently unable to communicate through speech.

This month, Sertoma celebrates the vital role audiologists play in helping people hear, communicate, connect, and fully participate in the world around them.

Through the Hearing Aid Project and other mission work, we are proud to support hearing health awareness and to help build communities where everyone has the opportunity to communicate however they so choose.

Jim Fowler’s legacy of service is a reminder of the difference one dedicated Sertoman can make.

A longtime member of Sertoma, Jim was remembered by friends and family as a businessman, community leader and, above all, someone who believed in doing the right thing. His commitment to Sertoma and his community reflected the heart of Service to Mankind: showing up, lending a hand and making a difference for others.
