This is why volunteering is important. If we had not had crews from neighboring departments on scene to help, we would not have been able to get the patient out. We used our set of JAWS plus another set from another department. Each of our neighbors provided something that we don't have on our trucks - extra cribbing, air bags to lift cars/objects, extra chains, etc. We also would not have been able to shut down the north way as easily without the another neighboring department.
Volunteer now at your local departments, we all need the extra hands! If you can't volunteer, find a way to support your departments. Many have multiple events throughout the year!
Additional help from police, sheriffs and rangers were greatly appreciated too. We had multiple EMS from all different levels plus Life Nets crew of working on the patient while the rest of the team worked on getting the driver out.
Not shown as much but HAZMAT did a fantastic job containing the diesel fuel that was leaking from the truck into the water.
