Speaking of shelter rescues, we rescued Francesca and Fernando from South LA shelter as small kittens with ringworm, last month. They have finally graduated from ring worm confinement. They’ll be ready for adoption soon, aren’t they so cute? 🥰

Something about recent arrival Ernie makes us think about the adage “cats have 9 lives”. Just three years old, Ernie apparently was discarded and left behind by his owner when the owner moved away. He was found wandering the property by one of our caretakers. We accepted Ernie at the sanctuary, got him neutered at the West Valley Spay/Neuter Clinic and got his medicals up to date.
The great news—Ernie is now adoption ready! 😻
The 9 lives part? Ernie just seems to know how to adapt and go with the flow in rough times.
Please visit our sanctuary in Atwater Village and meet Ernie! He so deserves a loving forever home. We are open for adoptions Thursday through Monday from 12-5 pm.

Every rescue cat has a story and Jax has a wild one. Six years ago, Jax accidentally got out of his home and was lost. Only he knows what happened next but fast forward to early 2026 when he was trapped and rescued, found with a de-gloved tail that required amputation.

Jax was micro-chipped and his former family was no longer in a position to take him back. Jax is now at our sanctuary living his best life. (see photos). ☺️Here’s a snippet from his official adoption bio:

“Jax has a calm, relaxed personality. He enjoys having his own cozy bed to lounge in, but he’s just as happy sitting beside you for company. He’ll often look up at people expectantly, hoping for attention, and sometimes stretches up against you to ask for pets in the sweetest way. Despite everything he’s been through, Jax is still affectionate, easygoing, and ready to settle into a safe, loving home where he can finally relax for good. “

Oh, he’s great with other cats too! Please visit Jax at our sanctuary during our adoption days (Thursday through Monday 12-4 pm) —he’ll just be “hanging out” waiting to meet you! 😁😁

We are thrilled to share that Kitten Rescue celebrated an amazing 168 adoptions this past Saturday as part of California Adopt-a-Pet Day! 👏👏👏

This statewide event aimed to secure loving homes for thousands of animals across California in just one day. Thanks to grant funding provided by the ASPCA, all adoption fees were waived for approved adopters during the event.

Thank you to everyone who staffed our mobile adoption events, welcomed adopters and facilitated adoptions at Perry's Place and the Casitas, processed adoptions, conducted home checks, and worked behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. Every role played a critical part in helping so many cats and kittens find loving homes.

A special congratulations to all of our foster parents who made it official and adopted their foster cats—great fosters parents make great adopters! Thank you for opening your hearts and giving these lucky cats the permanent homes they deserve.

And in the “words” of recently adopted black cat Jamie (now Zebulon) 🐈‍⬛pictured—there’s just no place like a forever home !

HAPPY 8TH BIRTHDAY, CORVETTE! 🎉
The team recently celebrated the birthday of our resident “silver fox” Corvette, who has been with us since he was just a tiny kitten.
Diagnosed as a neonatal kitten with a serious lower GI anomaly, “Corvie” faced incredibly long odds. At the time, it seemed unlikely he would survive. But our nursery manager, Lindsay (pictured here), refused to give up on him!
With guidance from specialists—and plenty of trial and error involving medications, supplements, and a special diet—Corvette’s determination to live matched Lindsay’s unwavering commitment to giving him every chance possible. Over time, the right combination of therapies worked, and Corvie not only survived—he thrived!
We celebrate this beloved curmudgeon, who has captured all of our hearts. Lindsay marked the occasion with his favorite Churu treat, and Corvie’s best friend Blair joined in the festivities, too.
Happy Birthday, Corvie! Here's to many more years of treats, naps, and charming grumpiness. ❤️

TIGGER has been with us for just two weeks, and he's already a superstar! ✨
This magnificent tabby is a true gentle giant. At just four years old, Tigger turns heads with his stunning striped coat, soulful expressive eyes, impressive size, and wonderfully sweet personality. He's the kind of cat whose presence fills a room—and whose affection fills your heart.💕
Tigger does have an autoimmune skin condition that is completely controlled with medication. He will need to remain on that medication long-term, and we're hopeful there's a special adopter out there who will be happy to give him the care he needs to stay healthy and thrive.
If you think you might be that lucky person, come meet Tigger at our sanctuary in Atwater Village, Thursday through Monday, from 12–4 p.m.

This is the entire Top Shelf Crew -Spunky the birthday boy, (long haired tabby), Nubbins ( all grey) and Cabbage (grey and white). They each found one another and never has there been a more bonded set of three! 🐱🐱🐱
They just “get” each other and are so happy together. They spend some time hanging out “downstairs “ but the vast majority of their time is just above us all - above our arms reach, but still in the mix. We will make sure they stay together 💕

This weekend we celebrated the 10th BIRTHDAY of our gorgeous “look but don’t touch—yet” cat Spunky. Spunky is a member of the top shelf crew at Kitten Rescue—The woman presenting his special birthday meal is Kelly, who run the Instagram page, the page AND is cat mom to Spunky’s mother FLUFFY.
Believe it or not, Fluffy has given in to the tame cuddly life, and we know Spunky’s day will come. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPUNKY! 👏😻🎊🎉🎂

Before — and After 🤍

Aimee was found hiding underneath a car: skinny, hunched over, covered in grease, and infested with fleas. She had just given birth to one stillborn kitten and was still carrying more babies inside her tiny body. 😔

When she was brought to the shelter, it was clear Aimee needed emergency medical care to survive. Thanks to West Valley Shelter, we were contacted immediately and we rushed her to East Valley Veterinary Center.

Dr. Hohne performed emergency surgery and saved Aimee’s life. 🙏We learned she had multiple deceased kittens in her uterus and would not have survived without surgery.

Barely a year old herself, Aimee is now safe, recovering, gaining weight, and finally receiving the love and comfort she deserves.
Aimee’s story is both heartbreaking and important. Kitten season has devastating consequences for young, unspayed cats struggling to survive outdoors. Too many suffer silently, and not all stories end like Aimee’s.

Spaying and neutering saves lives. Please help us continue rescuing cats like Aimee and preventing this suffering before it starts. 🤍
