At our May meeting, Red Hill Elementary School Assistant Principal Gene Osborne and PTO President Heather Tierney presented David Burt of the Cove Garden Ruritan Club with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his leadership and dedication to the Red Hill Elementary School Outdoor Learning Program.

The support of community partners like David and the Cove Garden Ruritan Club helps provide meaningful outdoor learning experiences for students and encourages a lifelong appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Congratulations and thank you for making a difference in the lives of these students!

One of the greatest joys of everything we do as a club is giving back to the next generation in our community. While we’re proud of all of our projects and events throughout the year, nothing is more rewarding than our annual scholarship presentations.

For 2026, we were honored to award five $1,000 scholarships to outstanding local graduating seniors as they begin the next chapter of their educational journeys. These students have demonstrated hard work, dedication, and a commitment to their futures, and we’re proud to play a small part in helping them achieve their goals.

Thanks again to our guest speaker, Lucille Smith, author of Unforgettable Jackson B. Burley High School, for speaking to the club on April 2nd. It was an engaging and enlightening presentation—we truly enjoyed having her with us.

Club Members,
Our speaker on April 2 is Lucille Smith, author of "Unforgettable Jackson B. Burley High School." She retired from the U.S. Army National Ground Intelligence Center after a 34-year career in information technology. She believes history is educational and inspirational, and reveals much about a time gone by. Her husband, Rauzelle, is a 1966 graduate of Burley High School.
