(398)

Founded in 1981, we are an agricultural support agency to the world. ECHO exists to follow Jesus by reducing hunger and improving the lives of small-scale farmers worldwide. We provide agricultural and appropriate technology training and resources to development workers in more than 165 countries. ECHO resources include a large knowledge base of specialized information, technical support based on years of experience, and an extensive seedbank focused on highly beneficial, underutilized plants. We work to identify, validate, document and disseminate best practices in sustainable agriculture and appropriate technology. ECHO creates opportunities for community leaders to network with one another to share experiences, ideas and solutions. This week, we launched a new YouVersion devotional called Cultivating Hope. This 3-day devotional shares true stories from small-scale farming communities around the world. Each one shows how everyday faithfulness (a shared skill, a garden, a hard conversation) becomes an opening for God's work of restoration.

Join us in reflecting on God's Word this week! To find our devotional, download the YouVersion Bible app or visit the link in our bio.

Your generosity is part of a story reaching around the world. 🌍

The countdown to Giving Tuesday begins, and we're inviting YOU to be part of the journey!

Throughout November, ECHO's Chief Development Officer, Leah Wegner, will be counting down to Giving Tuesday with us, taking us across ECHO's global network to hear directly from our teams in Asia, Africa, Central America and the Caribbean.

Together, we'll explore stories of collaboration, innovation, and hope, and discover how your generosity is making a difference in ways you may not always get to see firsthand.

As we continue moving Fully Forward Together, we're grateful for the many people who make this mission possible, including YOU!

Join Leah as we count down to Giving Tuesday, one story at a time. đź’š

🌍 This World Food Day, we celebrate small scale farmers who innovate every day to nourish tomorrow.

Around the world, farmers are adapting to changing conditions, protecting seed diversity, and sharing what works with their neighbors.

Innovation does not always begin in a laboratory. Often, it begins in a field with a farmer’s creativity and drawing on generations of knowledge to find options that fit their community.

ECHO has the privilege of walking alongside farmers and those who serve them. We listen and learn, help test and validate agricultural practices, and connect people across the ECHO network so that locally relevant knowledge can be shared and adapted in its proper context.

This World Food Day, we're reminded
that small scale farmers are not simply recipients of agricultural options. They are innovators, knowledge holders, and leaders shaping more resilient food systems in their own communities.

Today, we celebrate them and the knowledge they generously share.

Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

Caring for creation is both an opportunity to learn and a responsibility we share. 🌱

At Karen Baptist Theological Seminary in Myanmar, Master of Arts students recently explored Creation Care alongside ECHO’s Asia team, considering new perspectives on the relationship between community development and the stewardship of God’s creation.

As the seminary has already established a Creation Care Research Department, our team was thrilled to experience the excitement among students within the program. Building on that foundation, ECHO’s team shared perspectives from sustainable agriculture and community development, giving students another lens through which to explore how Creation Care can be understood and practiced.

For ECHO, opportunities like this are about sharing knowledge within a wider network. When students, educators, researchers, and practitioners bring different perspectives together, learning can extend far beyond the classroom and contribute to how communities care for people and creation.

We are grateful to Karen Baptist Theological Seminary for welcoming ECHO into this learning space and for its ongoing commitment to Creation Care.

ECHO East Africa and BILAT came together in Tanzania for five days of hands-on agricultural learning designed with deaf students in mind. 🌱

Working alongside BILAT (Tanzanian Sign Language Translation Development Organization - TSLTDO), the training created space for students to bring their experiences and perspectives while exploring composting, agroforestry, kitchen gardening, and many other elements of sustainable agriculture.

Each session offered opportunities to learn by doing, exchange ideas, and consider how different practices could be adapted within participants’ own contexts.

Good training is not one size fits all. It begins with listening to who is in the room and adapting how knowledge is shared so that learning is relevant, accessible, and responsive to the people and communities involved.

Thank you Bilat Dar for working alongside ECHO through our East Africa Impact Center!

Learning together can open new possibilities for an entire family. 🌱

In Thailand, ECHO’s South Asia team recently joined children and youth with disabilities and their parents for a practical compost production workshop rooted in that idea.

Families spent time learning and practicing together, exploring how compost can support backyard gardens and make use of locally available resources. The knowledge gained can contribute to growing food at home today, while also providing a foundation for families interested in exploring opportunities for supplementary income in the future.

This is part of what a holistic approach to sustainable agriculture looks like across the ECHO network: making space for people of different ages and abilities to participate, share knowledge, and discover practices that are relevant to their own lives.

As the workshop concluded, participants celebrated their learning with certificates and knowledge they can continue putting into practice at home.

We are grateful for our partners across the region who help make inclusive, practical learning opportunities like this possible within the ECHO network. 🌿

Learning together in Thailand 🌱

Earlier this month, members of ECHO’s South Asia team and our CEO, Abram Bicksler, visited agroforestry leader Aj. Jinda’s demonstration farm. Aj. Jinda and her team welcomed the group and shared practices shaped by their local context.

Moments like these are at the heart of ECHO’s network: learning from one another, strengthening relationships, and creating space for knowledge to be shared.

The work of feeding livestock begins long before feeding time.

Silage is preserved livestock feed that helps provide dependable nutrition when fresh forage isn't available. Preparing, evaluating, and refining these practices is one of the many ways ECHO explores practical agriculture alongside practitioners around the world.

Behind every batch is careful preparation, thoughtful observation, and a commitment to sharing what we learn so others can adapt ideas to their own local contexts.

It's often the quiet, everyday practices that help build more resilient farming systems.

What happens when agricultural leaders from around the world come together to share what they know?

ECHO CEO Abram Bicksler, alongside Shaun Snoxxel and Dr. Tim Motis, recently joined the International Horticulture Congress, connecting with practitioners and researchers from across the globe.

Beyond sharing insights from ECHO’s global network, the Congress offered an opportunity to learn and return with new perspectives. From conversations around food security to ideas that sparked creativity, the experience reflected the value of bringing diverse knowledge and experiences into one shared space.

Hear their takeaways and what personally stood out to them from their time at IHC.

Thank you IHC 2026! đź’š
