It’s mid-September, and fall is just around the corner. Although the season may not be as dramatic as it is in northern climates, we Floridians do see leaves falling from the trees and accumulating in our yards.
As tempting as it may be to gather up those leaves and burn them or bag them, here is something to keep in mind when you get the itch to grab the rake: Those leaves on your property provide an essential habitat and food for moths, beetles, reptiles, and amphibians, as well as other beneficial insects.

So when you rake those leaves, you’re not cleaning up. Instead, you’re evicting an entire ecosystem that spent all summer working as your property’s pest control system.
