A few thoughts from the heart.
Yesterday I drove all the way to Salmon to mail an envelope.
I wasn't quite ready to walk into the North Fork post office without Bobbie behind the counter. I'm sure whoever has taken her place is wonderful — and appreciated — but I just wasn't ready. Not yet.
The drive gave me time to think. About Bobbie. About Charles, about McGuyver, about Michele — and how unimaginably difficult these days must be when someone you love is taken so suddenly, so completely, leaving such a large space where they used to stand.
And then I thought about all of you.
Love is found in every act of generosity — large and small — taken to preserve our community. We launched this fundraiser just a week ago, and what you've done since then has been nothing short of extraordinary. Your kindness, your donations, your willingness to share Bobbie's story — it speaks to something deep and true about who we are out here in this valley.
Kindness was Bobbie's superpower. She gave it freely to every single person who walked through her door. I will hold that kindness in my heart for the rest of my life. I think many of you will too.
Sometimes I think Bobbie is reaching across the great divide to help us help her family. I wouldn't put it past her.
So let us hold Charles, McGuyver, and Michele in our hearts. Let us continue to honor Bobbie by spreading kindness throughout the valley — to our neighbors, to strangers, to the people who need it most. Our community is rooted in empathy. Bobbie knew that better than anyone.
I'm sharing a song that speaks to what this community has done — how you stood up, showed up, and carried this family when they needed it most. Give it a listen.
