💑 Good with people? Yes
👧 Children? Unknown
🐕 Dogs? Leash reactive - we have started training this week. I will provide progress updates!
🐱 Cats? Unknown
🐄 Other animals? Leash reactive - we have started training this week. I will provide progress updates!
💩 House trained? Yes - 0 accidents in the foster home (it’s been 2 months!)
🌐 Crate trained? Kali does not need a crate, she does very well and is not destructive when we leave her home free-roaming when her foster family is at work. She does not like the crate (will try chewing her way out of it). But she really doesn’t need it!
⚡ Energy level: Low-mid
🚗 Travel well? Yes. Excited to get in the car. She will lay down most of the drive. Occassionally likes to stick her head out the window 😊
🧸 Favorite toy/activity: Bones, Kong ball filled with peanut butter, training, going on walks, some fetch, and being around her humans
🚶♀️ Leash trained? Yes, will walk alongside you or just in front of you, but leash reactive when she sees any animals or people she doesn’t know when we’re out on walks (she is calm when meeting new people at our house though 🙂
🥅 Fence required? Fence preferred, but a non-fenced yard and being on a leash at all times works well for her too. She will stay close to you, but if she sees something that excites her (an animal or person), she will try to run towards it!
Kali is a sweet 6-8 year old, 84 pound lab mix stray from Tennessee. She was brought to the TN shelter in March, and made it up to her foster home in April. During her time with her foster family, her smart, sweet, and goofy personality has shined. She was most likely someone’s dog before, since she knows commands (sit, lay down, stay, and here), is fully potty trained, and always wants to be with her humans! In our foster home, Kali has chosen her “person” to follow everywhere and sleep with. I have no doubt she will do the same in her new home. If her “person” is not home, she will follow her other family members. She will lay on the couch with you (if your couch is big enough!) or lay on the floor near you. She will sometimes lay her head/paws on you, but most often she will just lay near you. Inside the home she has a very chill demeanor, and will pretty much just follow you and lay wherever her family is.
Whenever you look at her, she wags her tail and gives you those puppy dog eyes, always putting a smile on your face. She makes a lot of funny, low grunting sounds when stretching and getting comfortable, and she twitches a lot in her sleep! She also drools quite a bit when you’re preparing food or about to give her a treat. If you’re looking for your shadow who will follow you everywhere, a sweet, goofy girl, with a chill demeanor, Kali is the dog for you!
Kali is very smart, LOVES getting food and treats, and loves going on walks, so an ideal home would continue training her and going on daily walks. She sometimes plays with her fuzzy toys or plays fetch when she is excited (like when you get home from work).
This week we are working with a trainer to instill a “mark” word. We are also doing leash work and working on her heavy leash pulling when she sees a dog, person, or other animal out on our walks. She is very smart and attentive to her humans, and is very motivated by treats, so I’m confident she will learn quickly. I will give updates on how she’s progressing!
