Members and friends of the Legion,
By now we have all heard about the letter Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation received last week demanding that they cancel the event or face reprisals in the form of protests, disruptions and possibly bodily harm to the reenactors. I want you all to know that this letter was investigated by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was found to not be a credible threat. The decision was made to move foreword with the event. If there was any legitimate concern for the health and safety of the participants of the event, both reenactors and spectators, there would be no hesitation from the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation in canceling the event. However, in the spirit of caution and concern, security will be increased for the event. There will be an increase in police presence through out the entire weekend as well as identity verifications at registration and pass checks for reenactors.
It is important that we remain vigilant and lookout for our reenacting family at all events that we attend. The most important thing we can do is attend the events. If we give in to the tyranny of evil men and their scare tactics by staying home, then our hobby is doomed and those that wish this to be true have won. Let’s support this event and each other while we stand tall against adversity. Join me at Cedar Creek where it will be business as usual for the Provisional Army of the Confederate States.
I respectfully remain,
Brian Gesuero
