FALL BALL IS BACK TONIGHT!
I’m very happy to share that the temporary repairs at Crapo Field have been completed, power has been restored, and Fall Ball activities will resume as normal this evening!
Getting from the damage we discovered Saturday morning to having our kids back on the fields tonight took an incredible amount of work in a very short period of time. There are a number of people and companies who went above and beyond to make this happen, and I want to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
First, thank you to DYAA Board Members Nate Ferreira, Ryan Flanagan, Craig Snell, and Manny Washburn, who came out in the pouring rain Sunday to clean up the mess, remove debris, and prepare the site so our contractors could get to work.
A huge thank you to Marc Cabral of Marc Cabral Electrician. Marc met me at the field Sunday to assess the damage and immediately started developing a game plan. He had a crew at the fields all day Tuesday working to restore our electrical service and was back Wednesday and again today coordinating with our other contractors, the electrical inspector and the utility company to get us across the finish line. Marc’s commitment to helping us get these fields operational again was incredible.
Thank you to the Town of Dartmouth Electrical Inspector for making himself available on short notice and signing off on the emergency repairs so we could keep things moving.
Thank you to Eversource, whose crews responded Saturday to make the scene safe and then worked hand-in-hand with us throughout the week to develop and execute a plan to restore power as quickly as possible.
Thank you to Christian Farland and Farland Corp for stepping up with the equipment and man power necessary to get critical materials delivered to the site when we needed them.
And finally, an enormous thank you to Nick Carreiro of Live Line LLC and Nick Rego. When Plan A hit a roadblock late yesterday, these two guys stepped up without hesitation. One took a personal day from his full-time job, while the other gave us his time this morning before having to report to work this afternoon. Both were at our facility early this morning to help us pull off Plan B. Together, they set two new permanent poles and reconnected our power, allowing our kids to get back on the fields tonight.
Quite literally, tonight would not have been possible without Nick, Nick, Marc, and everyone who stepped up over the last several days.
What could have been a major setback that left three of our fields dark for quite some time instead became a great example of people in our community stepping up when we needed them.
We still have work ahead of us to complete the permanent repairs, but for tonight, the lights are back on and the kids are playing ball.
