Founded in 2012, The White Mountain Swiftwater Rescue Team (WMSRT) offers the specialized technical skills, training, knowledge, and experience of the White Mountain whitewater paddling community to support the search, rescue, and recovery operations of federal, state, and local rescue agencies and organizations on the rivers of the White Mountain region. Through education, outreach, and advocacy,
the WMSRT seeks to minimize the number of swiftwater and flood related incidents. The WMSRT can support search and rescue operations with the following specialized skills:
•Day and Night Hasty searches of flatwater and whitewater rivers by kayakers and canoers
•Swiftwater rescue and recovery operations
•Safe Management of swollen stream crossings for rescue operations / litter carries
•Downstream safety and rope ferrying to support municipal swiftwater rescue teams
The WMSRT is based in the Mount Washington Valley and can respond to support SAR operations throughout the White Mountain Region. The WMSRT is also available to advise local first response organizations and agencies on proper swift water rescue protocols. The WMSRT will work to develop an educational and outreach program to work with the local communities to minimize the number of swiftwater and flood related incidents.
