A whirlwind of a weekend. Philmont training day 27. Up Mt Chocorua 10 miles 2582 ft elevation gain. One more trail ( the beeline) and we will have red lined the area! Awesome. After a great Eagle Scout Court of honor we made camp and had time for some fun: cards, frisbee, a campfire, and s’mores! During the night we weathered a killer thunderstorm (one scout woke up to an inch of water in their tent). In the morning we packed up like a champ, had breakfast, and celebrated a milestone birthday of one of our best hiker buddies and expert photographer. We got on the trail early and tackled another awesome hike. Add another terrifying 25 hike to our holster ta boot! We had our first injury on the trail. (Twisted ankle) but thanks to two of our stellar leaders got him down to the trailhead and off to home and back up to the group in record time! Well done guys! Had a short but enjoyable lunch break at the liberty cabin. Rain, mud, slickness, socked in summit, wet pants, and some minor miscommunication couldn’t stop us from absolutely owning today’s hike. Great day!

What a wonderful weekend. Please welcome our two new Eagle Scouts from Troop 142. Our Eagle Court of Honor couldn’t have been better. We celebrated two stellar young men. What a joyful rollercoaster of emotions hearing tales from these two and the history with the pack and troop. We had representatives from district as well as past and present members of the scouting community and their family in attendance. Their Eagle mentor, Mr. Tom Howard a former scoutmaster from troop 142, gave a wonderful speech, so inspiring! So very proud of you Will and Sam Fullerton! Go out into the world and be great!

Getting real now. What does full backpack weight look like? At last nights troop meeting we did a pack check for all the Philmont scouts and leaders going. All in all we are pretty well equipped ready to go to Philmont! Only a few tweaks needed like additional water storage and a couple better rain jackets.

Philmont training day 25/26. 19 miles with a total elevation gain of 6000ft! With weight for all you nay sayers. Tackled Mt Israel, Sandwich Dome, and Black Mountain. Found some snow, stumbled onto a terrifying 25 trail, crazy water crossings, had a wonderfully magical camp site on Black Mountain pond, steep ups, steep downs, slick rocks, mud, wet feet, limits were reached, tested the Philmont food system (dehydrated meals), due to the day before rain there were raging water falls everywhere, and found tons of life in the woods. Memories for a life time.

Last night Troop 142 had the absolute pleasure to have a presentation by Mr Mike Lacey for the troops work on the railroading merit badge. Mike Lacey is a veteran railroader and the Train Master and Road Foreman of Engines at the Conway Scenic Railroad in New Hampshire. A fifth-generation railroader, he has a career spanning several decades, including experience with the Erie Lackawanna and Conrail, and is known for capturing photography of railroad operations. The troop will be able to go visit the train station in North Conway in the future and have hands on experience with the trains and life at the station. Thank you Mr. Lacey for coming to visit us.
