The mission of the Carl Gordon House is to provide a disciplined environment for women in Virginia. The house was designed for women who needed a safe hospitable transitional facility. Our objective is to assist women in acquiring the necessary disciplines and skills to become responsible members of the community. This consists of structure and discipline through which residents learn responsibili
ty for their decisions and actions. The current program is designed as an individual housing situation in which the residents are responsible for their space and household duties. They receive encouragement and support from other residents and staff along with weekly house meetings and community meetings. We provide an environment that teaches our residents how to work in harmony with house mates, co-workers, supervisors and counselors. Each resident is expected to learn how to set goals for themselves and to work on them until the goals are attained. With these tools each resident can learn to make responsible decisions. Length of program: Approximately 12-18 months. The actual length of participation will be based upon individual needs. The goal is to provide every resident the necessary tools to be independent with skills to live a self supporting life.
