With great pride we share that Maj (Ret) James Capers Jr, from our great state of South Carolina was awarded The Medal of Honor this past week!

From humble beginnings to an exceptional legacy 🎖

The President awarded Maj (Ret.) James Capers Jr. the Medal of Honor during a ceremony in the White House on Thursday, recognizing his service, sacrifice, and leadership.

Born in Bishopville, South Carolina, Maj (Ret.) Capers is a highly decorated combat Veteran and the first enlisted African American Marine to receive a battlefield commission to officer. He received the Silver Star for "bold leadership, undaunted courage, and complete dedication to duty" for his actions during a 1967 reconnaissance patrol in Vietnam.

Hosted by the Propeller Club of Charleston, the Charleston Council of the Navy League, and the Coast Guard Foundation, this historic evening will honor Coast Guard members who serve both our nation and our local community.
