Good Evening GREEN Parents,
I am writing to thank our wonderful PTO members for adding some beauty to our lives at the school during the week. It was not the delicious cholocates that made our week so nice and sweet but the suport that we have felt from our parents. THANK YOU!!!
Also, one of our parents offered help with construction of the canopy. Another great parent called me and volunteered his time for our robotics team. He will even bring his colleagues to work with our team at the school. We will meet at the school to plan for our robotics team this coming Friday. Furthermore, his company will sponsor one team for us. Then, our ST and OT started to work with our students. That company was referred by Mrs. Smith. (Thank you again. ) Finally, we were able to hire a new full time special ed teacher, who will bring her 28 years of experience to our schol and start on Monday. We also have a part time school psychologist who will start immediately and work with our special ed team.
Our grant application was also accepted and FIRST will give one set of educational materials to our Kindergarten, first and second grade students. Thank you, F.I.R.S.T. They will also offered professional development to our teachers as well and we will not miss this opportunity.
When we quarantene a classroom or some students, I know and feel the difficulty/pain of such a decision. I am a parent of three children and I experienced the difficulty of being called by your child's school in the middle of the day. When you are worried about your one or two children, my burden and stress is multiplied by 200. I wish I had an opportunity to take care of all our children without distracting our parents or losing any quality instructional time: However, we have to accept the challanges as they are and must move on.
We should use all our time and energy to protect our children and teachers when trying to give them the best education in town in a structured, safe and fun learning environment. I know that not all of us think the same; However, this is a life-threatening matter and it is more serious and deadly than some of us might think. If you have any relatives/friends working at the hospitals, please check them the status of those emergency rooms and who are filling those rooms at this time. Our school nurse, Ms. Reid, is really working hard. She might be using more precaution than some other schools sometimes, but all her goal is to protect our children as they are not vaccinated. Please keep supporting our school's efforts and help us overcome this issue safely.
Thank you very much for your continued support. I know some of you get upset or frustrated sometimes but please remember: We are building an excellent team that will educate our students for years. There will be some changes, additions, subtractions at the beginning and throughout this journey, which is quite normal and it is part of my job to make sure that all our students keep getting the best education regardless of what happens inside and outside of their classroom. All the changes have just made us a better, more experienced, stronger team so far. I made a promise and you trusted me. I will keep my promise and we will celebrate the success of our school at the end of our third year. GREEN Lowcountry will be among the top three public schools of SC. Period.
Sharing/exchanging dishes has been an old tradition in Anatolia, where I was born and raised. My mother used to return those dishes coming from our neighbors with her own special meals/bakeries, etc. Our neighbors also did the same. I would like to return this wonderful basket that came from our lovely PTO with my favorite CHEF COZY baklava. Maybe, we can schedule a PTO breakfast at the cafeteria; 2 people per table, or an outside tea-baklava party so that everyone can have enough space to keep the social distance.
If our PTO tells me when and where, I will prepare the fresh baklava and tea. (I personally do not love them but my brain works better when I have them, so I can make the school a better one. (Reference: George Orwell, Animal Farm).
One friendly request from our PTO: How can I answer this question when 100 parents call/email me and ask: "Why my child wasn't chosen for the robotics team?" πππ Can we find enough mentors and coaches for all of them? Each team will cost aroud $1,000 with the robot and materials+teachers/coaches time. They should spend a couple days after school every week and almost all Saturdays at school. It will require enormous amount of time, patience, discipline and hardwork. Now, it is your turn to worry and find an answer. π§Thank you in advance.
Have a wonderful Saturday night Excellent GREEN Parents.
