Coastal Community Foundation works to create communities rich in equity, well-being and opportunity through industry partnerships, thought leadership and advocacy, and by engaging donors who wish to be part of positive changes in coastal South Carolina. As we address policy changes and other large-scale needs to advance equity in our region, we create an environment where donors can amplify the im

pact of their generosity. We invest millions of dollars through grantmaking, impact investing and scholarships each year. We are known for understanding and acting upon the dynamic needs of the communities we serve, with examples including our disaster response efforts during and after major storms such as Hurricane Florence, and the creation of the Lowcountry Unity Fund in the wake of the Mother Emanuel AME Church massacre to support causes addressing systemic racism. Coastal Community Foundation manages more than 700 charitable funds and has $400 million in combined assets, putting us in the league of the 100 largest community foundations in the United States. And while the seeds were planted in Charleston, we’re now integrated regionally with offices in North Charleston, Beaufort and Murrells Inlet to serve nine counties: Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper, Beaufort, Horry and Georgetown.

After 25 years and more than $28 million invested in the community, The Beaufort Fund will now be known as The Four County Fund.

In a coastal region where hurricanes can quickly upend daily life, preparation must begin long before a storm arrives. In those moments, families need reliable access to food, shelter, transportation, supplies and trusted information.

For ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families, one storm can quickly deepen financial pressure and make recovery harder when emergency savings are already out of reach.

We're proud to share we've received an $80,000 grant from Coastal Community Foundation to launch a coordinated disaster preparedness, response and long-term recovery effort in Charleston County. The funding supports the creation of a full-time VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster) Manager position, helping to bring local organizations and government agencies together to ensure communities recieve the right support at the right time.

Thank you, Coastal Community Foundation, for your generous support that helps our community prepare for disasters, respond quickly when needs arise and guide families through recovery.

We are excited to announce Dr. Raj Chetty as the featured speaker for the 2026 Ambassadors of Philanthropy event!

A Harvard professor and MacArthur Genius, Dr. Chetty has spent his career developing scalable, data-driven solutions for communities across America to expand opportunity and achieve sustainable economic growth. He will share concrete solutions customized for the Lowcountry region to spark tangible change for generations to come.

We invite you to join us for this presentation that audiences have described as "life changing," so we can all discover new tactics to work together for lasting progress and economic change.

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 20 at 6 p.m. to be a part of the conversation. Tickets will go on sale in June and are expected to sell quickly.

Ambassadors of Philanthropy brings thought leaders to the region to educate and inspire donors and nonprofits, and reframe the way we think about charitable giving strategies. It's an evening dedicated to generosity, impact, and community. This CCF signature event is back for its second year to spark ideas for community change.

The 2026 Malcolm D. Haven Award for Selfless Community Giving will also be presented at the event.

Charleston Symphony provides music education to thousands of children in the Tri-County region thanks to support of CCF competitive grants and the generosity of our fundholders.

Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) recently hosted the annual Young People's Concert at the Gaillard Center. Over the course of two days, close to 3,000 elementary school students participated in an in-depth music exploration and performance.

At the start of the school year, CSO invites music teachers to a professional development workshop where they receive curriculum to implement in the classroom throughout the year. They work with their students to perform the piece through song, dance, and instruments like the recorder or ukulele. Then they all come together at the Gaillard Center to play with the pros in the orchestra!

Thanks to field trips like this, and the visits from the Orchestra's world-class musicians in Lowcountry classrooms, CSO is removing financial and geographic barriers and increasing arts access for all students in the region.

Congratulations to Katelyn Chapman, 2026 Griffith-Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year!

A former art professor, Chapman recently left her teaching position to pursue an art career full time.

She is an oil painter who focuses on the American South’s rural working class. Her still life paintings draw from a rich history and provide perspectives on larger societal issues. She paints in life-size ratios that provide a heightened sense of intimacy and realism for the viewer and allow her audience to be an active participant in the scenes before them.
