To help LAMC continue this important work, you can donate at https://lamcnc.networkforgood.com. The Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities (LAMC) is a 501c3 organization located in North Charleston, SC. The reason that LAMC exists is to address some of the underlining issues that tend to be perpetuated in communities, particularly communities of color, that result in generations trapped in low

paying jobs, becoming renters, and live in areas steeped in blight. Our revitalization plan addresses four core areas (affordable housing, education, economics, and the environment) that primarily focus on removing barriers that continue the cycle of poverty. To that end, we seek partnerships to help us implement strategies that are outlined in our revitalization plan. Our revitalization plan can be found on our website at www.lamcnc.org. The MISSION of LAMC is to promote a sense of ownership within the community that translates into empowered residents that actively participate in initiatives to improve the quality of life of their communities. The VISION of LAMC is to achieve sustainable and vibrant communities that encompass all the amenities of a healthy and thriving area.

THE LOWCOUNTRY ALLIANCE FOR MODEL COMMUNITIES (LAMC) RECEIVES FUNDING FROM NOAA AND THE NATIONAL FISH AND WILDLIFE FOUNDATION (NFWF) TO SUPPORT RESILIENCE WORK IN ROSEMONT AND BRIDGEVIEW.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – NOAA and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) on December 6, 2022 announced a $300,000 grant to the Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities. The funding, in collaboration with the Department of Defense and private sector partners, provides more than $136 million to support 88 natural infrastructure projects in 29 states and U.S. territories.

LAMC’s Community Capacity Building for Nature-based Flood Resiliency in Rosemont and Bridgeview will support residents and Rosemont and Bridgeview develop a flood resiliency plan that identifies potential sites for living shorelines and nature-based infrastructure in Rosemont and Bridgeview. This project will promote community-led resiliency planning to prevent flooding and protect endangered ecosystems in the Charleston Neck.
LAMC leveraged a $35,000 grant to attract nine organizations contributing a total of $316,000 for a total of $616,000 for the Community Capacity Building for Nature-based Flood Resiliency effort. Organizations participating in this effort are the Rosemont Community Association, the City of Charleston, the South Carolina Aquarium, the University of South Carolina, Clemson, the College of Charleston, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and the Medical University of South Carolina.

LAMC’s Executive Director, Omar Muhammad, stated he “is excited about this opportunity to center the voices of people who bear disproportionate impacts from the climate crises but rarely are included in conversations about climate impacts or solutions to address climate impacts. This project changes that and the subject matter experts on living and adapting to climate impacts will influence the response to climate solutions in their neighborhoods”.
