Most people volunteer for Scouting thinking it’s just roasting marshmallows and handing out patches—until you’re suddenly deep in the woods with fifteen hyperactive kids, a collapsed tent, and dark storm clouds rolling in.
The secret to leaders who look completely relaxed on campouts isn’t luck. It’s this training flyer:
🏕️ BALOO (Nov 6–8): If your pack loves overnight camping, someone has to take this. BSA policy requires at least one BALOO-trained adult on site for every single pack overnight activity. Without it, the trip legally can’t happen. Cost is $25 at Crawford County Sportsman's Club.
🧭 IOLS (Oct 16–18, Nov 6–8, or Nov 13–14): Required for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. It teaches the outdoor essentials and the art of the youth-led troop, so you can stop micromanaging and let the Scouts run the show. Dates are available across Sugarcreek, Crawford County, and Glenmont.
🩹 Wilderness First Aid (Nov 7): Planning a high-adventure trek to Philmont, Sea Base, or Northern Tier? You are required to have at least two WFA-trained adults on the crew. Seats are strictly capped at 18 participants at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation.
⚜️ Cub Scout Leader Training (Oct 24 or Oct 31): Stop spending hours reinventing meeting plans every week. These sessions cover Den Leader, Cubmaster, and Committee Chair roles all in one shot so you leave confident and fully trained. (Bonus: The Oct 24 Canton session includes Hazardous Weather training!)
⚡ Hazardous Weather: It takes literally 20 minutes online to protect your unit and know when to pull the plug on dangerous weather.
Untrained leaders burn out; trained leaders actually get to enjoy the campfire.

A huge shout-out and thank you to our local community and the wonderful team at Tractor Supply Co. on Whipple Avenue for hosting Cub Scout Pack 12 today! 🍿⚜️
Our Arrow of Light Scouts were out in full force working hard, practicing their salesmanship, and greeting everyone with big smiles for our annual popcorn sale. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who stopped by our table, our scouts took another big step toward funding an incredible year of camping, adventures, and badge work.
Community partners like Tractor Supply make all the difference in helping our young leaders grow, learn, and succeed. We are so grateful for your hospitality and support!
