New Jersey Smart Riders NJ Motorcycle Safety Awareness was developed by the Brain Injury Alliance of NJ as a resource to moto

The vulnerability of motorcyclists on New Jersey’s roads is underscored by an unacceptably high, and disproportionate, number of fatalities among riders. Fatality statistics only tell part of the story; there are so many more individuals who have sustained a brain injury from transportation-related crashes whose lives are changed forever. Many individuals are unaware that seat belts, car seats, tr

affic lights and other engineered technology were developed, primarily, to prevent brain injury. Not only is brain injury devastating to the individual who sustains the injury, but also to their family, friends, and associates. In addition, the financial cost of this injury is not limited to individuals and families, but extends to the greater community, state, and the nation.

Jersey George shares a mindset that has stayed with him through his years of riding:

“Motorcycles reward humility and punish ego. You have nothing to prove to anyone. Know your limits and respect them. Ride your own ride."

Safe riding starts with awareness, preparation, and knowing your limits. Wear your gear, stay alert, scan ahead, and ride with intention every time you head out.

The best rides are the ones that end safely.

A rider from Sayreville, NJ, shares some simple but important reminders.

Always be prepared and make sure to wear the proper attire for safe riding. That means no sandals, no shorts, and no shortcuts when it comes to protection.

Every ride deserves your full attention and the right gear to go with it.

What you wear on a ride matters.

Motorcycle gear like helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, and eye protection can help reduce the risk of serious injury if something goes wrong. Making it part of every ride is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself.

Riders, gear up every time you take a ride. Drivers, stay alert, check your blind spots, and give motorcycles the space they need.

This Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey encourages everyone to make safer choices on the road.

Safety starts with awareness.

This May, during Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, we’re encouraging all road users to stay focused, patient, and alert. Whether you ride or drive, your actions matter.

Motorcycle crashes can result in life-changing injuries, including traumatic brain injuries. By slowing down, avoiding distractions, and respecting all vehicles on the road, we can help prevent these incidents before they happen.

Join the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey in promoting safer roads across our communities.

A rider from Spring Lake shares their story of who’s behind the helmet.

After starting out as a passenger on their brother’s motorcycle, their journey turned into a lifelong passion. In 2011, they took the MSF course and earned their endorsement, and they’re still learning today. Now on their fourth bike, they continue to build skills and prioritize safety every time they ride.

The message is simple. There’s always more to learn. Stay safe, but have fun.

There is always a real person behind the helmet.

A helmet is more than just gear. It is protection for what matters most.

During Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, we’re reminding riders that wearing a properly fitted helmet can significantly reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury in the event of a crash.

For drivers, awareness is just as critical. Look twice, save a life. Motorcycles can be harder to see, especially in busy traffic.

The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey encourages everyone on the road to make safety a priority this May and beyond.
