Today, our Program Director, Ashley, had the distinct honor of presenting at the 2026 National Conference on Police Social Work, hosted at Southern Connecticut State University.

We were incredibly grateful to be invited back for a second year to share the important work being done to strengthen relationships between first responders and the disability community.

Throughout the morning, we had the opportunity to connect with social workers and professionals from across the country to discuss the importance of fostering trust, understanding, communication, and preparedness through meaningful community partnerships.

A heartfelt thank you to Officer Del Monte and Dr. Logan for the invitation and continued support. We are also grateful to the SWLE Project for creating space for these important conversations and collaborations.

We are thankful for the opportunity to share our mission and look forward to continued partnership in supporting individuals with disabilities, their families, and first responders.

NEW COMMUNITY PARTNER!

We are proud to announce a new partnership between LINKED- Autism Safety Project and the Meriden Police Department, working together to support individuals with disabilities.

As part of this collaboration, the Meriden Police Department is now:

โœ… Using our voluntary disability registration forms
โœ… Distributing emergency planning kits for individuals and families
โœ… Equipping cruisers and emergency vehicles with sensory bags
โœ… Will participate in our LINKED Disability & Autism First Responder Training

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to inclusive safety and disability awareness in emergency response.

Special thanks to Linda DeWolfe and Ray Ouellet for assisting the coordination and Joe Vollano for the donation of funds for the LINKED sensory bags.

Together, we're making emergency services more accessible, understanding, and responsive for people with disabilities.

Glastonbury and surrounding communities, we are coming your way!

Join us for a Parent/Caregiver Workshop!

We will discuss ways to build strong connections between first responders and the disability community helps foster trust, understanding, and effective communication during emergencies.

Parents, caregivers, and guardians play a vital role in sharing important information about individual needs so first responders can provide the most appropriate and compassionate support.

This workshop focuses on creating proactive partnerships that reduce anxiety, improve preparedness, and support safer outcomes for everyone involved. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘

Such an amazing morning in East Haven!

It truly was the best day building relationships with both East Haven Police Department and East Haven Foxon Volunteer Co. 3 at our Sensory Friendly Public Safety Day!

Our attendees explored the emergency vehicles, tried on first responder gear, and most importantly became more familiar and comfortable with the first responders in their community.

Seeing the interactions between our kiddos and the police officers and firefighters is truly amazing. The smiles, the laughs, the hugs, and the fist bumps are what it is all about!
So much appreciation to Officer DePalma for helping organize today and for the continued support from the East Haven community.

It was incredibly meaningful to hear how this programming has supported not only first responders, but community members as well.
We are so thankful for these relationships and look forward to continuing to build upon them year after year. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš“

Over the last month, we have had the privilege of working closely with the West Haven community in several meaningful capacities.

Last month, we partnered with West Haven Youth & Family Services to implement three AAC Communication Boards at playgrounds throughout the city. These boards help create more inclusive and accessible play spaces by providing individuals who need communication support with tools to engage and interact with their peers.

This evening, we also had the opportunity to continue collaborating with the City of West Haven to provide resources, education, and support โ€” not only for emergency management professionals, but for the residents of the community as well. West Haven will always have a special place in our hearts as it was the community that our Pop was a firefighter for close to 30 years!

Thank you to everyone who continues to support inclusion, accessibility, collaboration, and community partnerships. ๐Ÿ’™

Such a special day. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Today we had the pleasure of spending our morning at A Collaborative Academy in Old Lyme alongside some incredible K9 teams โ€” K9 Chase, K9 Hodges, K9 Traveler, and K9 Viera.

The excitement, laughter, smiles, and pure joy throughout was unforgettable. Watching these students connect with the K9s and officers in such a positive and meaningful way was truly powerful.

Experiences like this matter deeply. For many individuals with differing abilities, interactions with first responders can feel overwhelming or unfamiliar. Creating opportunities like today helps build trust, understanding, comfort, and connection long before moments of crisis ever arise.

These relationships and experiences have the power to leave lasting impacts on the students.

We are incredibly grateful to Officer McClelland (Groton PD), Officer Nocito (New London PD), Officer Fredricks (Waterford PD), and Trooper Webber (CT State Police) for taking the time to show up, engage, and create such meaningful moments for our students and families.

This is what true community collaboration looks like. ๐Ÿ’™

A great afternoon with our friends at CABLE - The Connecticut Alliance to Benefit Law Enforcement

Today, we had another opportunity to present our training to law enforcement officers from departments across the state.

Our session sparked meaningful conversation, powerful storytelling, and the sharing of valuable experiencesโ€”while also laying the groundwork for future partnerships.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to collaborate with CABLE and provide autism-focused training through their monthly CIT sessions. Itโ€™s through partnerships like these that we can create lasting impact
