Interplay Orchestra A non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating music and engaging persons with disabilities.

The interPLAY Orchestra is a 35-year old nonprofit music organization of adult musicians with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities: amateur musicians and professional musicians, high school seniors and university musicians as “Bandaides”, all performing together for the community in year-round concerts at the world-class Music Center at Strathmore. We feature guest artists, composer

s and conductors playing all genres of music from Classical to Jazz and everything in between … printed scores, newly composed music, full orchestra, ensembles and solos working on regulation percussion and traditional instruments – and some creative ones, just for fun and new sounds. The interPLAY Orchestra also periodically performs choral music, features vocal soloists and a drumming curriculum led by a world-class drum master. Our sold-out concerts have included over 100 volunteers and performers. Guest performers have included hip-hop artists and 2010 Grammy nominee Christylez Bacon, as well as a quartet from Hexagon of the Washington Political R***e.

Join us for a joyful night of music and community as Interplay Orchestra takes the stage at the 🎶

Our 36-year-old inclusive ensemble of adult musicians with and without disabilities will perform an exciting, eclectic program featuring U2, Olivia Dean, Prince, Duke Ellington, Antonín Dvořák, Phil Collins, Herbie Hancock, Dolly Parton, Ozzy Osbourne, and more.

🎶 Monday Musician: Meet JP! 🎶

JP was one of the very first members of InterPLAY when the group started back in 1989.

✨❤️ What’s your favorite thing about interPLAY?
“My very first involvement was as one of the original members and I enjoyed it very much. I love being an orchestra member. I have the journey from being a newbie 35 years ago to now. And joining and participating on the Board [of Directors] is a privilege I have enjoyed. InterPLAY is like a second family to me.”

✨🥁🎤 Do you play any instruments?
“I play many instruments with Interplay and I like them all. I also listen to music pieces at home, and I sing and dance. I use my body to make vocal and non-vocal music. I like to physically express myself to music as well as play instruments to music.”

✨🎵 What is your favorite genre of music?
“I love all genres of music because that is what music is all about. I love all music.”

✨🎸 If Emily asked you to choose one piece of music for our musicians to rehearse and perform, what would it be?
“I would pick Beat It by Michael Jackson.”

✨📸 What is your favorite interPLAY memory?
“They all are! Everything I have done during my participation with interPLAY from the very beginning down to now.”

✨🎨🏟️ What is a fun fact about you outside of music?
“I am an artist and a journalist. And I love to go to sports games. I was an Orioles fan before the Nationals existed. Now I follow the Nationals, the Commanders, the Wizards and the Capitals.“
