Local 1804-1 International Longshoremen’s Association Christmas Meeting at The Grove
December 9, 2025

Thank you to all of our members who came out to celebrate the season with us. Your energy, your pride, and your solidarity filled the room from the moment the doors opened. It was an incredible turnout and a powerful reminder of what makes our Local so strong: coming together, supporting one another, and showing up as one united membership. What a wonderful way to celebrate the season together🎄🎁🤍

A message from our Local 1804-1 President, Dennis Daggett:

“What a terrific night!
Last night’s ILA Local 1804-1 Christmas Meeting brought close to a thousand of our members together, and it was an incredible success!
I couldn’t be more thankful for the overwhelming support, the unity, and the undivided attention you continue to show me and our entire Executive Board. We did our best to bring the Lisbon Anti-Automation Summit home to our membership with a powerful highlight video of that historic conference, because everything we do globally is for YOU here at home.
We are honored to represent the strongest, most militant trade unionists anywhere in the world… members who understand the true meaning of Solidarity, who support one another without hesitation, and who will ALWAYS stand up and fight back if cornered.
To say I’m PROUD is an understatement.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and Happy New Year to the greatest membership on Earth!!
Love you all!!

Today, we stand together to honor the brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. To our veterans, we thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to duty.

You’ve shown what it means to stand tall, to protect what matters, and to never back down, values that define both our military and our union brothers and sisters. Your strength and discipline continue to inspire every one of us on and off the job.

We remember those who served, those still serving, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their legacy reminds us that freedom isn’t free, it’s earned by the bravery of those willing to fight for it.

We also want to honor and pay tribute to our ILA President and Local 1804-1 President Emeritus, Harold Daggett, a proud veteran whose leadership, integrity, and lifelong dedication to the labor movement continue to inspire every member of this Local and the entire ILA family.

A statement from our ILA Local 1804-1 President Dennis Daggett regarding last nights membership meeting:

“Last night's ILA Local 1804 1 General Membership meeting was one of those moments that reminds me why I love what I do. I've always appreciated the support, participation, and energy our members bring, but last night felt different. The energy in that room was off the charts. The engagement from our members was uplifting, inspiring, and something l'll never forget.

Every officer did a great job delivering their reports and presentations. I could feel the unity, pride, and strength that make Local 1804 1 what it is. When I spoke, I felt at ease, relaxed, and connected. We covered important issues and focused on building a better future. But beyond the business, there was purpose and passion in every discussion.

I often hear people say the younger generation doesn't understand our industry, that they just want to get paid without putting in the work. Well, let me tell you, we have some of the best young people l've ever seen. They're engaged, committed, and ready to carry the torch forward.
They get it. They understand what it means to be a Dockworker, a Longshoreman, a Wharfie, part of something bigger than themselves.

They stood in solidarity, listening to ILA Vice President Kenny Riley recount that historic night in Charleston. "I have never been in the military," he said, "but we went to war that night." His words hit home. We can't have success unless we understand and learn from the struggles of the past.

I'm proud to represent people who are loyal, educated, and unwavering in their commitment to build a better way for all Longshore workers. Last night felt different because it all came together, the past, the present, and the future. It was more than a meeting, it was a reminder of who we are and what we stand for.

I love you all. Thank you for allowing me to fulfill my passion and for giving me the honor of representing the greatest rank and file members on this planet. I'm so damn proud.

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the courage of the first responders, workers, and everyday people who stood strong in the face of tragedy.

As a union, we reflect on the impact that day had on our nation and our communities. We hold close the memory of those we lost while we continue to stand united in remembrance, strength, and hope.
