Lastly, thank you to the Pre Track Club and Coastal Takeoff for taking on our Spring Athletes for their summer programs and coaching them to great success. Together our clubs will continue to teach track and field and grow something great here.

As the late GREAT Coach Mac used to say, these kids will β€œADD TO THE LEGACY” πŸ…

This was a great way to wrap up our first season in Coos County, and we look forward to continued growth in the coming years.

The season's success was made possible in large part by CCYTC's many volunteers, sponsors Dennys Pizza, Coos Bay - North Bend Rotary (for the Grant opportunity) and Wild Coast Running Company, and Michael Brainard, who ran the Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) System.

Dear CCYTC Families,

As our inaugural season comes to its natural close, I want to thank all of you for trusting our new program with your young athletes this Spring.

Levi and I dreamed up this plan during last Spring’s track season, and the result has truly blown us away. I won’t speak for Levi, but there have been moments this season when I’ve been absolutely overcome watching the growth and success of these kids.

We set out to bring competitive, organized youth track to our rural community after seeing what it was missing. Over the last two years, I took my own boys to the USATF Junior Olympics at the state and regional level, and I saw firsthand how many families and young athletes were hungry to compete. It became clear to me that our community was overlooking this sport at the youth level, and overlooking the talent we have right here at home. Levi felt the same frustration and the same desire for something better, and after many conversations with other dedicated families, CCYTC was born.

What started as just Levi and me grew into a full board with Sarah and Karley. Then came our 501(c)(3) status, and before we could even catch our breath, it was registration time. None of this growth would have been possible without the trust you placed in us as parents and guardians. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

The athletes who compete with us are getting a head start. They’ll reach the middle and high school ranks with years of real experience, competing at a level our area has never seen. Will the competitive side of the sport sting sometimes? Absolutely. A young athlete may face their first disqualification with us, but now is exactly the time to take that lump, learn from it, and grow. And from Fully Automatic Timing to long jumping off a real board, these kids will have accurate, measurable results, so they can watch their own progress early and often.

I’m looking forward to many more years building this program and to all the successes still ahead of us. And please, please, please reach out if you have ideas or suggestions for next season. We want to hear them.

See you at the track!

Chris Gill
Vice President, CCYTC
