Hello, we have received multiple reports regarding a visibly limping cow elk at Meadowbrook field. After personally observing the elk, I can confirm that she appears healthy and is shedding normally, despite the absence of a leg below her hock. According to the Department of Fish and Wildlife's policy, euthanasia is only considered for animals that are morbidly injured, which is not the case here. This marks the second year since the initial concerned citizen contacted us. We appreciate the concern shown by everyone who contacted us about her. Additionally, we have been made aware of another cow elk on Mt Si road with a similar condition, the cause of which is just as uncertain.

New batch of seed got delivered. Weather this week isn’t really conducive to getting seed to take root. When it does, you can check out the permit book and key for the day. I have maps to show which roads have already been done. 🌱🌱🌱

Help Prevent Elk Deaths on I-90

I represent our local elk herd as President of the Upper Snoqualmie Valley Elk Management Group, and we urgently need your help.

Recently, there have been multiple elk-vehicle collisions along I-90. These incidents are tragic, dangerous, and preventable. A key issue is the wildlife fence along the highway—it’s in serious disrepair, allowing elk to access the roadway.

The State of Washington has authorized us and provided equipment to repair and maintain this fence—but we don’t have enough people to do the work.

Right now, our group has fewer than ten active members, and many are unable to participate in physically demanding or high-risk tasks. We’re looking for community members who care about wildlife conservation and are willing to step in and make a real difference.

How You Can Help
• Assist with fence repair and maintenance along I-90
• Support habitat restoration projects
• Help spread forage seed to create safe feeding areas for elk and other wildlife

These efforts don’t just protect elk—they make our roads safer for everyone.
