Doesn’t matter the point in the career… This Line of Duty death is as tough as any others… Prayers up to everyone affected in Columbia County and beyond.

It is with a heavy heart that Columbia County Fire Rescue announces the death of one of its members, Fire Recruit Kalif Leslie Daly, who passed away while participating in our Firefighter Training Program on November 4, 2025. Recruit Daly was in the newest Recruit Class, and after not feeling well during Physical Training the morning of November 4th, he was transported to the hospital, where he later passed.

“This loss has deeply affected us all. Columbia County Fire Rescue is more than a department; we are family. The bond we share, the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service, is built on trust, strength, and shared purpose. Though his time with us was far too short, he will always be a member of the Columbia County Fire Rescue family,” said Chief Jeremy Wallen.

The entire department is devastated by this loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the recruit’s wife and family, friends, classmates, and department as we all grieve together. In times like this, we lean in on one another.

Columbia County Fire Rescue respectfully asks for privacy for the family and colleagues as they cope with this profound loss. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from our community and other surrounding departments during this time and ask that everyone keep Recruit Daly’s loved ones and our fire rescue family in your thoughts and prayers.

Funeral arrangements are pending, and further details will be shared once finalized.

Support Deputy Victor Rodriguez

Just after midnight on October 2, Deputy Victor Rodriguez was shot multiple times while responding to an armed robbery. Even while wounded, he courageously returned fire to protect others. He is now in stable condition but faces a long road to recovery.

When Deputies are injured in the line of duty, their medical bills are covered but their income is reduced through workers compensation as they lose the overtime and special duty work most rely on to support their families. Victor is not only a Deputy, but he is also a husband and father to a young daughter.

👉 Let’s stand with the Rodriguez family during this difficult time. Every prayer, every share, and every donation helps.

COLUMBIA COUNTY DEPUTY KILLED IN ONE-CAR WRECK!

A Columbia County deputy was killed late Tuesday after wrecking his Jeep in Appling, authorities said.
Deputy Jeremy Crookham, 38, was traveling north on Ray Owens Road around 11:48 p.m. Tuesday when he left the roadway on the east shoulder “for an unknown reason,” a report says. The vehicle continued to travel north on the shoulder and traveled through a fence. After hitting the fence, the Jeep began to overturn and struck a tree with the top of the hood before coming to a stop.
