May 26, 2026 Update
🙏(6 Months POST-CART Disease Evaluation, Bone Marrow aspiration and Lumbar puncture at CHOP)
On May 31st, Ava and I will be traveling to Philadelphia, where she’s set for evaluation and procedure in June 1st. The team at CHOP has suggested that we stick around for an extra day after the procedure to receive the expedite preliminary results, so I booked our return flight for June 3rd, assuming everything goes well.
They also mentioned that the consideration of another CAR-T reinfusion will be based on how Ava's results turn out from this evaluation.
If her 6-month Bone marrow aspiration shows BCELL return at the same percentage as her 3month evaluation in February 2026 results, with No evidence of disease, they might consider holding off another dose of CAR-T and will continue to monitor her instead. CHOP are encouraged by Ava’s consistent B-cell aplasia in peripheral during her follow-ups since her reinfusion in March.
However, if the results don’t look as promising, we will re-visit the option for a second reinfusion, which would mean a third CAR-T dose, and will put Ava and I to stay awhile in Philly like the last time, which we pray that we don't get this kind of result😌 Although, going for another re-infusion/3rd dose of CAR-T has its own set of concerns outweighing the risks versus benefits, especially since Ava had higher inflammation with her last treatment.
I’m staying hopeful and praying hard for Ava's results to show NO B-cells and NO signs of disease forever so she can avoid another treatment. So she can continue to live and enjoy her life. We’re trying to keep a positive mindset, considering how far we’ve come! We’ve made sacrifices, left our South Carolina home several times, away from family, driven by HOPE. Ava's Bone Marrow home team has their own CAR-T options, but they aren’t the same as what Ava received at CHOP. We chose CHOP even if its 11 hours away from home, because we believe this opportunity offers something that is not available in her home team, we believe that this gives Ava a better chance. Our family, friends, and community have been incredibly supportive to get us to this point, and the Doctors at CHOP have been a true blessing in Ava’s care, working hand-in-hand with her home team. We really feel grateful for having the best care and an amazing team.
But Im not gonna lie, this disease evaluation is always gut-wrenching for all of us, the consistent waits of not knowing what news we get, the consistent worries, that only people whose gone through it can fully grasp. I hate that Ava and her siblings have to feel this pain, especially with the anxiety of being apart again. It's been a rough of over three years with so many setbacks, but we’re thankful for how well Ava has handled it—she’s made the most of her life, when she can! We truly see how God is working during tough times. Despite the pain, yet we have seen God's miracle working each time Ava recovers and each day when Ava is able to do what she likes to do, God showed us so much hope and your prayers has given us strength🥹
To Ava's prayer warriors, we’ve felt your support and have seen how your prayers have made a difference. Our family is beyond grateful to each and everyone of you. Ava has so many plans, and getting good results would be the best belated birthday gift ever for her❤️ I’m holding onto hope that tomorrow brings brighter news for her because God is right in the middle of all this. 🥹❤️🙏
Love,
