The NCASC family circle lost a dear member over the weekend. Damen Cates passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was active in student council at J. M. Morehead High School in Eden and served as a JC at the Mars Hill Summer Workshop in 1995. He attended UNC- Greensboro and worked with Common Wealth Hotels. His mother, Sandy Cates was a co-advisor of the student council along with Max Kirks at J. M. Morehead. Many thanks to NCASC Alum Becky Waldrup Johnston for the wonderful photos from her 1995 scrapbook. In the JC group photo at the log cabin, Damen is standing in the middle wearing a black shirt. The other photo features JCC Becky Waldrup Johnston and Damen just outside the doors to the banquet at Mars Hill. If you have ever stood in either of those places, know that you have shared a space with him. A link to his obituary is in the comment section. A few family photos from his FB page are also included. His vibrant personality certainly shines through.
