Fifty-seven students in grades PreK-5 from the three elementary schools participated in RSU #74's Camp Carrabec Summer School Program for three weeks this summer at Carrabec Community School. In its sixth year, the program was open to all district students to help them to maintain and/or increase their academic skills over the summer, to make new friends, and to have fun. Students who just finished preschool participated in the Kindergarten Jump Start program to prepare them to enter kindergarten. They worked on reading, writing, and math skills but also had guest presenters (Sheryl Tennent- art and Rick Caldwell- music). K-5 students attended four class sessions each day: reading, math, arts & crafts, and STEAM. There were lots of engaging activities such as building a fort and boats, playing Math Jeopardy, participating in social-emotional learning lessons, building and flying rockets, making Fourth of July crafts, tie-dying T-shirts. and studying the science behind root b**r floats. Bussing was provided, students were served both breakfast and lunch, and they enjoyed outdoor activity time twice a day. We hope the students enjoyed their time at Camp Carrabec!
