Today as we celebrate Juneteenth we reflect on how we got here.
The path we walk to day is paved with the bodies, the experience, the wisdom, the hopes and the dreams of all who walked it before us. From the enslaved people who were subject to the most unimaginable condition and experience, whose trauma we still carry with us today. To those who lived through Jim Crow, still building communities, families, culture all while being targeted for choosing to live and thrive. The Civil Rights Movement, bloodied and beaten their actions and sacrifices paved the way for the rights we have today. To present day where we are still fighting for a world in which freedom, equity and liberty are given to all who inhabit it, we must pay homage to all that has come before us. May we:
Honor our ancestors and the path they paved
Hope for our future generations
Dream bigger for the world around us
Fight the oppression
Revel in joys of today
