* M

ost often, people observe normal wildlife phenomena which require no intervention, and the animal(s) should be left alone.

This hurt baby owl was brought to us by a good Samaritan and is recovering well, being raised by a non-releasable surrogate father owl. Every year at our wildlife center, quietly and without braggadocio or drama, we go about the day-to-day business of taking in and healing roughly 4000 animals from the Philadelphia metro region. But another, even more important side to what we do is the phone calls. Our staff answers the phone 20,000 times a year. We WANT you to call us.

Not every situation requires capture and transport. However, for those situations that do, the heroes are YOU guys, the general public that finds animals and brings them to us. You are the eyes and ears, noticing when something is wrong. You are the ambulance, containing the animal and bringing it to us. You are brave, you are resourceful, and wildlife rehab does not exist without you.

Whenever you find an animal that you think needs help, call us directly, and you'll speak to a team with a combined 50 years of experience in wildlife rehab. We'll give you careful, measured advice tailored to your unique situation--because every situation is unique and requires unique answers--there are many solutions that don't involve capturing the animal, and we have the experience to go over a range of options to help YOU help and protect our native wildlife. And if it does need transport, we'll instruct you on how to do it safely in your unique situation. Dig it, you're the ones who make it happen.

Our mission and work

Welcome to the Philadelphia Metro Wildlife Center! We are a fully licensed wildlife rehabilitation team with a combined 31 years of experience, supported by over 60 trained, dedicated volunteers. Our team have treated over 80,000 animals and taken 150,000 phone calls. In 2017 alone, we fielded over 15,000 phone calls and treated 4,200 patients. In our suburban Philadelphia location, we are able to assess and treat patients, manage ongoing care, and transport special cases to other clinics within our network.

Our mission is to provide support and rehabilitation to injured and orphaned wildlife, and to inspire and educate people to care about and coexist with wildlife. We accomplish this work with the support of our dedicated volunteers and are purely funded through donations. Please help us accomplish our mission by sharing this page, following our stories, and providing donations of supplies or funding.
