This hurt baby owl was brought to us by a good Samaritan and is recovering well, being raised by a non-releasable surrogate father owl. Every year at our wildlife center, quietly and without braggadocio or drama, we go about the day-to-day business of taking in and healing roughly 4000 animals from the Philadelphia metro region. But another, even more important side to what we do is the phone calls. Our staff answers the phone 20,000 times a year. We WANT you to call us.
Not every situation requires capture and transport. However, for those situations that do, the heroes are YOU guys, the general public that finds animals and brings them to us. You are the eyes and ears, noticing when something is wrong. You are the ambulance, containing the animal and bringing it to us. You are brave, you are resourceful, and wildlife rehab does not exist without you.
Whenever you find an animal that you think needs help, call us directly, and you'll speak to a team with a combined 50 years of experience in wildlife rehab. We'll give you careful, measured advice tailored to your unique situation--because every situation is unique and requires unique answers--there are many solutions that don't involve capturing the animal, and we have the experience to go over a range of options to help YOU help and protect our native wildlife. And if it does need transport, we'll instruct you on how to do it safely in your unique situation. Dig it, you're the ones who make it happen.
