What: Monthly Meeting with/ Jim Habera
When: Thursday, June 11th 7:00 PM
Where: Norris Community Building 20 Chestnut Rd

Our upcoming June Membership meeting will include a special presentation by Jim Habera of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). Jim will share detailed results from the annual survey conducted on the Clinch River every March. This survey provides important insights into the river's fish populations.
The recent adjustments made to stocking schedules have led to noticeable improvements in both the numbers and size of Brown trout in the Clinch River. These positive changes suggest that the new strategies are effective in supporting and enhancing the Brown trout population.
Additionally, the natural reproduction of Rainbow trout continues at a sustainable rate, indicating that the river environment supports healthy growth and regeneration of this species.
This meeting is particularly important for anyone who fishes the Clinch River and wants to stay informed about its current conditions and fish populations. Whether you are a member of our chapter or not, all are welcome to attend. Make plans to join us for this valuable opportunity to learn directly from experts and gain up-to-date knowledge about the river.

What: Women on the Water 2026
When: Saturday, June 20th 9 am to 3 pm
Where: Clinch River, just below Miller Island

We are bringing back our Women on the Water event after 4 years. The Bowling families have graciously invited us to use their beautiful property located just off River Rd and right on the Clinch River. We will register 16 ladies for a day of learning and fly fishing with a great lunch in there as well. We can provide all the gear needed or if you own your own equipment, by all means bring it. The property offers room for some casting practice, a covered cooking area, a beautiful log home and some prime fishing water just below Miller Island. Thanks to TVA we will have an extended minimum flow for some extra wade fishing time. To register, visit our website at www.crctu.org where you will find the registration form on the home page. Registration is now open.
This is the first year that we will be fishing from the Bowling property, these pictures are from prior events.

What: Quarterly Roadside Cleanup
When: Saturday, May 16th, 2026 9 am
Where: Meet at the Island Home Baptist Church, Hwy 441

This is our second cleanup of the year, and the weather should be great! I noticed the shoulders have been mowed recently and that will help in seeing what trash has been thrown out. We meet around 8:45 am and get started by 9:00 am and are generally finished by 12:00 noon. If you are a student in need of community hours or a member of the Scouts working on a badge, this is a great time to get the hours you need and help make our area beautiful. You don't have to be a member of our Chapter to take part, just show up. We will have litter crew signs out to help slow down the traffic along with bag, gloves, safety vests and grabbers. Our efforts are supported by Keep Anderson Co Beautiful and TVA. We will have fresh coffee and doughnuts in the morning to get everyone started.
We hope you will join us this coming Saturday.
Thanks,

Our Chapter is seeking volunteers for a special fishing event. For several years now we have partnered with TVA and supported them by providing equipment and volunteers to put on a day of fly fishing. We have done this on the South Holston and on the Toccoa in Northern GA. Again this year we will be on the Toccoa on Wednesday, June 3rd. This is an all day event with coffee and pastries in the morning and a lunch provided by TVA. There will be TVA staffers and invited guests. Another TU Chapter local to the Toccoa will be providing assistance as well. We will car pool as much as we can, if you drive the Clinch Chapter will provide reimbursement for your gas expenses. We are looking for volunteers that feel comfortable assisting (in some cases new) anglers in the water. We also need volunteers that want to help with issuing equipment and helping attendees get in their boots and waders. There is a registration form now available on our website at www.crctu.org . Click on the Volunteer Registration tab to complete the form. GA fish and game will be stocking the stream prior to this event. Volunteers are welcome to fish after the event, but would need an out of state license. Complete information is on the website.

What: Trout in the Classroom fish release by Powell Middle School
When: Friday, May 1st
Where: Lower Clear Creek, Norris, TN
The TIC program is a national program to encourage students to become more informed of our natural resources and hopefully responsible stewards of our cold water fisheries. There are a great number of schools in our area that participated in this program. The Little River Chapter Trout Unlimited is very active along with the Clinch River Chapter www.crctu.org . The Powell Middle school has a great group of young people that spent part of their day releasing their young trout and collecting bugs from Lower Clear Creek. After collecting bugs, retired TVA fisheries expert Dennis Baxter explained the importance of these aquatic insects and their life cycle. We have other schools scheduled to release their fish later this month. These small trout will remain in the protective small creek and eventually make their way into the Clinch River. For more information on the TIC program visit https://www.troutintheclassroom.org/ . If you would like to volunteer to help you may contact the Clinch River Chapter at the web address above.

This past Saturday, May 2nd we held a TU Service Partnership event for veterans, first responders, fire, law enforcement, emt, medical personnel and their families. We had a day of learning and fishing. We had a great group of participants and volunteers. It was a little cool early in the morning but warmed up nicely. This event was supported by a generous grant from TVA Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc, we appreciate you. TVA is a supportive partner to our Chapter and provides grants, grants special water release schedules and storage space for our large equipment inventory. To learn more about TU's Service Partnership program visit https://www.bing.com/search?q=trout+unlimited+veterans+service+partnership&form=APMCS1&PC=APMC for more information.
