It's been a whirlwind of a week. I have been meaning to post this amazing rescue story all week and just haven't had the time.
This is why I know God is driving Norris Ark.
A dozen goats were among the animals kept at one of the dog hoarding locations we have been working on since February. According to the owner, they only wanted three goats but accidentally purchased a lot of 12 at an auction last October. We offered to find the extra goats homes. They are all dairy goats. They were supposed to all be does.
We contacted several 4H leaders to see if they would be interested. Most politely declined due to the health status of the animals being an unknown factor. We finally found someone who was willing to guide us in getting the proper testing done so that they could be placed into homes safely. Her family came out on a rainy Saturday two weeks ago and helped us gather samples which we promptly sent out to the lab.
We discovered that 3 of the goats are wethers and the owner chose to keep those three and surrendered the other 9 to Norris Ark Rescue 501c3
Our new 4H friend told us about one of her 4H families that had wanted to start goat projects but sadly their entire herd had to be euthanized a year prior due to CL, an abscess illness that is highly contagious. She said she would connect us to the family if the tests all came back negative.
Results on our goats came back and all 12 were shown to be healthy and free of disease. We were thrilled to be able to gift 2 does to each child in the family and restore their 4H aspirations.
Pictured are the six goats they chose happily playing in their new home.
The other three does have been adopted too.
We will share updates as the family sends them.
