The Youth Experiential Training Institute - YETI Y.E.T.I. is a 501(c)(3) hosts year-round outdoor adventures for students in King County.

In all of our programs, we strive to create places of belonging where young people learn and grow. We actively break down financial, cultural, and gender barriers to make sure all students have an amazing outdoor experience.

The Glacier Middle School Y.E.T.I. Club went to Seahurst Park for their first off campus adventure of the year. Program Coordinator Erin brought magnifying glasses to help students get a closer look at the plants, and JoAnn was especially stoked to identify all the mushrooms along the way. She even shared how happy she is to have found Y.E.T.I. and get to spend more time outside. We're happy too, JoAnn!

Lunch with a view! Students from different schools joined our open enrollment trip to Twin Falls. They hiked to the shores of the Snoqualmie River for lunch and were blown away, saying things like, “Wow. This is such a cool spot to eat lunch.” They’re not wrong!

The Sylvester Middle School Y.E.T.I. Club went hiking at Seahurst Park and got really into the plants and mushrooms along the trail! Program Coordinator Sam said it was so fun watching Program Instructor Rory point things out and seeing the students gather around to get a closer look at the mushrooms and touch the plants. We love seeing young people get curious about the world around them!

Mohamed has been coming on Y.E.T.I. trips for a couple of years, and this time, he got to bring his little brother Moshi along!

Moshi is a sixth grader at Pacific Middle School and is now old enough to join the fun himself. Mohamed was so excited to share Y.E.T.I. with him, checking in throughout the hike at Franklin Falls with little comments like, “Isn’t this awesome, Moshi?!”

We love seeing students share their love of the outdoors with the people they care about. Here’s to more adventures together! 🏔️

Thanks to everyone who came out for Burien Movie Night! We had a great time hanging out, watching adventure films, eating good food, and connecting around the campfire.

Thanks again to BMO for sponsoring the night and to everyone who helped make it happen. We’re so grateful for this community and for everyone who continues to show up for Y.E.T.I. and our students!

Last week was the first week of Y.E.T.I. Clubs!

We were back at schools, seeing familiar faces and meeting new students. One teacher told us she’s been watching some of the new 6th graders find their way to Y.E.T.I. and come back with the biggest smiles.

After our last Movie Night, we heard a few things like:

“I love their mission to help encourage kids like me who thought that going outdoors was scary and thought that maybe there were places that we don’t belong...”

Today is National Public Lands Day, a day to celebrate the outdoor spaces that belong to all of us.

And we want more young people to feel they belong in their public lands. That these places are for adventure, for building community, and for falling in love with the outdoors. And when you fall in love with a place, you’re more likely to want to take care of it and fight for it.

That’s more than an adventure.

We’re raising $15,000 through October 6 to help make more of these experiences possible. Thanks to our Board of Directors, every dollar you give will be matched, up to $5,000.
