Residents of Norman, thank you for your support through phone calls, emails, and outreach to your City Council representatives.
At this afternoon’s City of Norman Budget Adoption meeting, the Council voted to fund the full amount requested ($51,600) by the Animal Welfare Oversight Committee. These funds will provide critical support to WildCare Oklahoma for the animals brought to their facility by both the Norman Animal Welfare Center and Norman residents in need of specialized care.
This decision represents an important investment in animal welfare and demonstrates what can be accomplished when citizens make their voices heard.
It is also a testament to the dedication of Becca Bean, who has spent years advocating for our shelter facility, staff, volunteers, and the animals in their care. Becca has worked tirelessly to ensure important issues are not overlooked or forgotten. Her leadership, knowledge, persistence, and guidance have helped bring meaningful improvements to city policies, operations, and funding decisions that directly benefit animals and the people who care for them.
If you see Becca around town or stop by STASH, please take a moment to thank her for everything she does to make Norman a better place to live, work, and care for animals.
Together, we are making a difference.
Last year alone, WildCare cared for:
• 300 animals brought in by Norman Animal Welfare Officers
• 1,363 additional animals from the citizens of Norman
The requested funding will cover only a portion of the costs associated with animals transported by city animal welfare officers. Even with this support, WildCare would continue contributing substantial uncompensated services to the community.
For more than 40 years, WildCare Oklahoma has provided these essential animal welfare, conservation, and public health services to Norman at no cost to the city.
