What happens after incarceration, and what does successful reentry require from a community?

Beyond the Sentence brings together individuals with lived experience, justice and reentry professionals, employers, faith and community leaders, and policymakers for a candid conversation about the challenges and opportunities of returning home. Together, we’ll explore barriers to employment, housing, treatment, and belonging; and how communities can support second chances while strengthening families and public safety.

Join us Tuesday October 13th, from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM at 3801 Journey Pkwy, Norman, OK 73072.

Remember The Big Read? Pioneer is doing something similar with The Many Lives of Mama Love, a book to help us to better understand the challenges faced by justice-involved individuals and the thousands of Oklahoma children affected by parental incarceration. Each branch has an opportunity to discuss the book, along with related events, and it will culminate in a community conversation on incarceration and re-entry on October 13.

You can instantly borrow the book on Libby.

Congratulations to Cherish, the recipient of the Barbara Cooper Scholarship! Barbara Cooper was a beloved longtime volunteer with the Friends, and the community honored her by offering a scholarship for outstanding high school students (Barbara was her high school valedictorian!) who volunteer with the library. Cherish worked diligently as an intern, carting, shelving, creating artwork, providing excellent customer service, and even making and implementing her own teen programming - a teen cooking challenge program she planned was the most well attended teen program of the year 😮
