Our monthly Sustainability Social Hours feature someone who is creating a more sustainable Oklahoma City! November features Amy Warne, a dietician, indigenous food sovereignty thought leader, and advocate for health equity and food access and affordability.

Amy is a lifelong resident of Oklahoma. She is Muscogee enrolled, Seminole, and Tiger Clan. With a diverse nutrition background in non-profit, food sovereignty, and consulting, Amy speaks on Indigenous Food Sovereignty often and has partnered with various organizations, including the First Americans Museum, the Metropolitan Library System, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, Eastern Food Bank of Oklahoma, and is a two-year consultant for the Hungry for Action Conference, the only statewide conference focused on food security put on by Hunger Free Oklahoma.

Q***R LIBERATION AND GENDER JUSTICE

Standing up for LGBTQIA+ rights and dignity is ongoing, sacred, and necessary work.

Everyone in our community deserves safety, visibility, and liberation - yet q***r folks are nine times more likely to be victims of violent crimes than cis-het folks, and nearly half of q***r folks have experienced workplace discriminati
To learn how we can do better organizationally, from 2016-2018 SFFI worked closely with external facilitators on gender justice training for all staff and collaborated with trans and q***r alumni to improve our practices.

We now have a gender justice orientation for all staff and immersion participants, trans caucus spaces, trans-centered curricular materials, trans priority in application processes, and more visible trans leadership, among other initiatives. Currently 25% of Soul Fire Farm staff are nonbinary/trans and 55% of the staff, board, and senior leadership are q***r.
