ZCS participated in the 2026 Regional Retreat Day. We received education, development, growth, etc. We were charged with oneness to build and establish greater community partnerships. In the words of many of our HBCU Bands, it’s imperative that we move forward as, “One Band, One Sound.” Our Philos participated and were engaged and charged for community service.

Meet Soror Tonya Fugett

For Soror Tonya Fugett, service is more than giving back—it is an opportunity to bring awareness to issues that can change the course of a woman’s life.

A graduate of the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, Soror Fugett earned a Master’s degree in Human Relations and currently serves professionally as a Human Resources Business Partner. Outside of her career, she enjoys traveling and watching television.

Soror Fugett’s decision to become a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was inspired by the excellent character she witnessed among members of an undergraduate chapter. Their example of sisterhood and service left a lasting impression and ultimately influenced her own journey into SGRho, Sorority, Inc.

Of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.’s five essential programs, the Women’s Wellness Initiative holds a particularly meaningful place in Soror Fugett’s heart. Her connection to the initiative is personal. Her mother experienced breast cancer, giving Soror Fugett a firsthand understanding of how deeply the disease can affect not only a woman, but her entire family. She has also witnessed family members and friends experience domestic violence, further strengthening her passion for women’s health, safety, and well-being.

These experiences are why this initiative means so much to her. Soror Fugett believes education and awareness can empower women to recognize warning signs, seek help, advocate for their health, and make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

October provides a powerful opportunity to bring both causes to the forefront. Breast Cancer Awareness Month, including Pink Week, October 13–15, 2026, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, represented by purple, allow us to educate, support, and stand alongside women whose lives have been touched by these issues.

For Soror Fugett, the Women’s Wellness Initiative is not simply a community project—it is service with a personal connection and a purpose.

ZCS would like to recognize Rhoer Aireca Gonner for her hard work. She was selected to join the St. Jude Leadership Society. Aireca demonstrated her leadership skills by organizing baked sales (her chocolate chip cookies ~ amazing) and a garage sale as part of her fundraising.

She had the opportunity to travel to Tennessee July 8-10, accompanied by her mother, Soror Tiffany Gonner. They captured and shared some amazing photos. The photos have a brief synopsis of the contributions of the individuals. Again, thanks Rhoer Aireca Gonner for rising to the challenge to grow in her leadership skills, network, and support the mission of St. Jude.
