Meet the Hagan Family 💛 Part 2

We have faced challenges on this fostering and adoption journey, but God has been with us every step of the way. While fostering, Aria’s case took many turns, and we weren’t sure what was going to happen. We were concerned for her safety and well-being. We’re thankful for God’s protection during this time. We had to walk in faith that God really does love her more than us, and that he had a plan. What a plan he had!

Since adoption we have spent countless hours in various forms of therapy with both Bear & Aria. We have worked as a family to form attachments, learn and implement strategies to become and stay regulated, and grown together throughout the years.

In the Hagan house, everyday as a family is a victory. When you work hard to function on a daily basis, then making it through each day is a challenge and then a victory when we reach the end of the day!

Bear & Aria have overcome so many obstacles in their 7 years, and we are very proud of them. God has constantly shown up for us by providing exceptional therapists and doctors to partner with us, teachers that are life-giving and compassionate, and a church family that roots for their successes. Even though many days are hard, we have reached a place where we know on the other side of the valley is hope.

Chosen sent out cards with a gift card inside to foster and adoptive families. It was a nice treat to go out to dinner with Steven with the gift card! Also, I’m part of a small group for foster and adoptive mamas, and Chosen provided dinner for us one night this summer. Thank you Chosen!

Meet the Hagan Family 💛

Our family is made up of my husband of almost 10 years, Steven, and our two 7 year olds, Bear & Aria. We also have a very loved pup named Duke.

We started what we thought was our adoption journey in the winter of 2017. We went into this thinking we would only adopt, and then we began fostering in September 2017. We fostered three newborns in less than four months! The third newborn that we fostered is our daughter Aria, and she was adopted in March 2019. We continued to foster after we brought her home from the hospital in December 2017. Bear came to our home in May 2018, and he was adopted in September of 2019.

We honestly never intended to foster, but once we saw the need we couldn’t say no! When both Aria & Bear’s cases turned to adoption we were overjoyed that they would become official Hagan’s!

Meet the Taylor Family | part 2

We had some ups and downs with our journey. The caseworkers weren’t always easy to work with and neither was the court system. We did go through a private agency which definitely was a blessing because they were there to help guide us in our journey.

When we signed up to foster, we were told there was no way we would get a baby—that it would be toddlers and more than likely a sibling set. We said, “okay awesome.” Got our house setup up for a sibling set of toddlers. 24 hours after signing our contracts, we got a phone call for a 5 day old baby. We absolutely said yes. This 5 day old baby is now almost 4 years old and he is one of our adopted babies along with his 3 older sisters. We were able to take in all 4 siblings as a set for adoption.

Chosen has been amazing. They have always been there for us. When we found out we were taking in the other two siblings for adoption we didn’t have enough room in our house, so we needed a 3 bed bunk bed which would cost more money than expected because it was right at Christmas time. Chosen stepped up and bought our bed and the bedding for our sweet girls! They have also send us gift cards for me and my husband to go out to dinner for date nights which has been absolutely needed and so amazing to be able to go do.

Meet the Jacksons | part 2

Some challenges in our story have been that our adoption is closed due to the birth mom choosing that through our agency. The training we received prepared us to have an open adoption and relationship with the birth mother. We send pictures and cards on Christmas and Mother’s Day to our agency which keeps these should the birth mom choose to see the folder or meet us when and if she reaches that point. We are doing our best to explain what adoption is and how much his birth mother loved him and chose us to take care of him. I know there will be challenges ahead when he has more questions. I wish I could tell others how natural the process feels. Our hearts do not know the difference between biological children and adopted children. The love is the same. Sometimes I have slipped and said “when I had Austin”. It all feels very natural.

The great thing about our agency is that they are there for us for life. If we have any questions, concerns, etc they are available for counseling and other services for Austin and us. We feel very loved and supported by friends and family. Although we adopted before Chosen was created as a ministry we have felt loved and cared for by many friends at . Hopefully our story can inspire others to reach out and ask questions.

Meet the Murillo Family | part 2

Honestly, the only challenges I feel we have faced, is just navigating raising children that have already been in other families and had different backgrounds. Learning to navigate their trauma and what they have experienced from previous foster homes and meshing it with our family culture has been the hardest struggle, but we have been so blessed over the last 2 years with 5 amazing kids being placed in our care and being able to adopt 4 and make this home for them forever that the struggles don’t really seem hard when we think of the blessing they have been to us.

Our victory is the process with Gabrielle, our adopted daughter. When she came into our home, she had seen way too much for a 2 year old. She had anger issues and lots of behaviors that could be difficult at daycare and home some days. But fighting for her and being her advocate as we walked through everything was huge for us. And when adoption day came and we knew we would get to continue loving this girl forever, it was the sweetest day. She is a completely different child than the one that walked through our door almost 2 years ago. And to us, that is a huge victory. Another victory is getting these 3 boys into our home in October. They were in a foster home that wasn’t able to keep them any longer and they were struggling to find a home who would take all 3. We got a call from the pastor of VFC Shawnee who knew the family through their church. He asked if we would consider it and pray on it. After praying and doing dinner with them and then having them stay for a weekend, we knew this was a God- ordained placement. These boys were meant to be ours. They were meant to be Gabi’s big brothers. They fit so well, it was like they had always been with us.

Chosen has provided us with a Christmas experience for our family this year. I can’t wait to take the kids and surprise them with this adventure. They have also gifted us gift cards for groceries and dinner out. They have been a huge blessing to our family and we are forever grateful for Chosen🤍.

Last month a new office was launched for faith based initiatives. We are thankful our governor is leading us in this. It’s about neighbor serving neighbor. And that is what fostering is about. It’s what helping our fostering families is all about. We are thankful that our state is recognizing the importance and necessity of this!

Fostering can look very different than what you expect and you will often be hit with many surprises along the way. The good news is that you aren’t alone. God knows what lies ahead and His guidance and provision is all you need to do the task. He gives grace in the moment. There are also others who have been in your same position. Talking to someone who has been there can make all the difference!
