A historic day for the University of Oklahoma — and for the future of health care in our state.

Harold Hamm, founder and chairman of Continental Resources, has been a dedicated partner in advancing medicine and research at OU for decades, including shaping the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center into what it is today. With this extraordinary new commitment, that impact will reach even further.

We are deeply grateful for this partnership that continues to create opportunities for healthier lives and a stronger Oklahoma.

Today, we remember the heroism that occurred 25 years ago through a story about Rick Rescorla, published in a 2006 edition of Sooner Magazine.

Rescorla, a Vietnam veteran and OU alumnus, was head of security for Morgan Stanley when the 9/11 terrorist attacks took place.

Thanks to his thorough preparation for emergencies, the majority of Morgan Stanley’s 2,700 employees were safely evacuated before the South Tower fell.

Dozens described Rick with a bullhorn in his hand, shepherding coworkers down the stairwell while shouting “Today is a day to be proud to be an American,” and singing Cornish folk songs.

When the South Tower fell, Rescorla was inside, making one final sweep to assist any lost or injured people left behind. ❤️‍🩹

“I never thought I'd live past 18, much less graduate,” Rebecca Town says.

Rebecca Town remembers what hunger feels like. Her most basic needs—food, water, stability—weren’t consistently met growing up, and college never felt like a realistic goal.

Town is now on track to graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from the University of Oklahoma’s Price College of Business, a milestone that feels surreal.

This young woman embodies resilience. Read her full story in Sooner Magazine:

Ian Gonzalez arrived at OU with a love for music nurtured by a small-town band program. Now, he’s leaving OU with his degree and the start of a unique career in instrument repair. 🎺💃🛠️

Gonzalez always believed that music could be more than just a passion. And at the OU School of Music, that possibility became reality. As a member of the trumpet studio, Gonzalez found himself in an environment defined by excellence and opportunity.

“I feel like I have achieved everything that I had sought out coming here,” Gonzalez said. “I feel like I'm ready to go, and I'm ready to tackle the next thing in the world.”
