Good Afternoon,
We are deeply saddened with the recent events of the worlds current state.
Being a company that is Black operated, and that has also had a long history of people with different sexual orientation, ethnicity, class, and religions be associated with The Urban Movement entity; it has been hard to find the words to address many of the issues at hand.
We felt we needed to address the particular issue of sexual harassment/ abuse -- which has been problematic not only in Chicago's Hip Hop dance community, but the entertainment industry as a whole. We do NOT condone this behavior at Urban Movement.
Having had multiple members of our company, old and new, go through traumatic, and subtle instances, we as a company have educated and implemented rules to help allow us to keep our members safe from unfortunate experiences
Predatory behavior on collegiate students, in general, is nothing new, nor is this something that should be tolerated.
Thank you to the individuals in and outside of Urban Movement that have spoken out. To the ones that have used their voice, and no one heard you, we hear you as well..
Since having had members of ours speak out to our directors about this predatory behavior, conversations have been made, and internal awareness has been our focus..
Abuse of power is a problem.
Sexual Abuse is a problem.
ALL BLACK LIVES STILL MATTER
If you see something say something.
With Love,
The Urban Movement
