MEET MADI
Hey guys! My name is Madi, I’m the Director of Marketing and I run the social media! I thought it would be weird to talk about myself in the 3rd person so I’ll just introduce myself.
I am a junior at ISU and I’m studying BS psychology with a minor in cognitive sciences. I hope to move on to graduate school to become a clinical psychologist!
When I first heard about AJB, I immediately wanted to be involved. I love the mission so much, I also love coffee, so it all works out! I’m so excited to see what this year has in store for A Just Brew and I can’t wait to document it on our social media pages!
Thank you all for your support! We can’t any of this without you, so thank you! Talk to you guys soon!

Madison and I (Andrea) met our very first day at Illinois State University as freshmen. We were amazed we had never met before: we attended high schools only a half hour apart, competed against one another in cross country and track for four years, and had hundreds of mutual friends. We quickly became the best of friends through daily morning trail runs, meals at Watterson Dining Center, and Cru Bible studies.
2017
We lived next door to one another in Hewett Hall our sophomore year. We spent most nights up late talking about anything and everything. We encouraged one another in our walks with God, played lots of pranks on Jake Barbush, and led a Bible study together in our dorm. We started our clinical experiences for nursing and elementary education and deepened our passions for our fields.
2018
We spent a summer in Ocean City, New Jersey together on a summer mission with around 100 students and Cru staff from the United States. We worked at a seaside restaurant together as waitresses, woke up early to watch the sunrise, and did heel clicks on the beach. We started dreaming about how we might best use our gifts to make a lasting impact in the world.
2019
We lived together in an apartment with our other dear friends and shared a room (and clothes and everything else). Our conversations started focusing heavily on justice issues. Madison was becoming aware of deep brokenness of the world because of her amazing teaching classes, and I had just returned from a summer in Ghana with International Justice Mission doing anti-human trafficking work. We started hosting dinner parties in our house weekly, gathering students and talking about issues of injustice in the world and what Jesus might have to say about them. 90 students ended up coming to dinners. We started to dream of starting a nonprofit.
2020
On January 20, we opened A Just Brew at Illinois State University. A Just Brew is a nonprofit, volunteer-run coffee shop committed to brewing excellent coffee and giving 100% of profit to International Justice Mission, the world’s largest anti-slavery organization. We interviewed 40 applicants, met with the Health Department, filed paperwork, trained baristas, and prayed harder than we ever had together. We are amazed by the goodness of God and convinced of His heart for justice more now than ever. We are so excited to be a part of His redemptive mission on Earth and amazed we get to be a part of it together.
