We're excited to announce the actors bringing the local lore to life in October with our Detour project: Downtown Spirit Stroll. Guided by Haunt Hosts - you'll visit these actors in four familiar downtown locations to experience theatrical stories inspired by the very place they are standing in.

Arthur M. Jolly (he/him) shares the standard writer background of starting in the NY film industry as a stunt performer, special effects artist and snake wrangler; then becoming a helicopter pilot instructing for the US Army in Fort Rucker, Alabama; and later flying tourists from Las Vegas into the Grand Canyon. Given such a predictable trajectory, his decision to quit flying and move to Los Angeles to write is all too familiar. Jolly was recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences with a Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting. Feature films include WHERE WE DISAPPEAR on Amazon Prime. As the playwright of 76 produced plays, Jolly won the Todd McNerney National Playwriting Award, the Region IV David Mark Cohen Playwriting Award, and was a finalist for the inaugural Woodward/Newman Drama Award. Published works include A GULAG MOUSE, THE ITHACA LADIES READ MEDEA, THE LADY DEMANDS SATISFACTION, LONG JOAN SILVER, MRS. DILBER'S CHRISTMAS CAROL, PAST CURFEW, RISING, THERE IS NO PLAY, TRASH and two collections of short plays GUILTY MOMENTS and THIN LINES.

Play Synopsis: A new hire at a bar learns that the place is haunted.

Matteo La Porta is an Italian-American playwright, actor, and director based between Chicago and northeastern Italy. He holds dual U.S.-Italian citizenship and has performed in over 30 productions across Italy, the United States, Slovenia, and Austria, working in English, Italian, German, and Slovene. His theater work spans classical repertoire, physical theater, and solo performance. His writing has been recognized at the Festival di Maricchia (Palermo, Italy), where he received awards for Best Direction and Best Dramatic Text in both 2025 and 2026, and at Festival Libera-Mente (Florence, Italy), where his original work LYLE received the same double recognition. LAST CALL is his first play produced in the United States.

Play Synopsis: LAST CALL is a one-person play about the art of witnessing — and what it means to be the last warm room someone needs before they go back out into the world.

Templeton Moss notes, "I grew up in Southern California, spent twenty years in Kentucky, currently live in Louisville, but I still consider my hometown to be Disneyland. I am a published author of poems, plays and children's stories. My play, THREE HOURS TIL DAWN won the Arts-Louisville Award for best short play in 2022. When not writing, I can usually be found napping, watching Marvel movies and just generally avoiding adulthood. My hobbies include pizza and Nintendo and my turnoffs include manual labor and Republicans."

Play Synopsis: A poorly disguised space alien arrives at Duffy’s in an attempt to mate with a human woman, but instead he gets some useful advice from two of the bar’s patrons.

The cast for One More Round presented by Nomad Theatre met at our next performance location, Smash House Tavern for karaoke on Thursday night with Nathan Rodriguez.

Fun was had by all. It was also a great bonus opportunity to check out the performance space before tech next week.

Tom McClure is in the last third of his professional life. In Act I, he practiced law in Kankakee County as trial attorney for 28 years. In Act II, Tom was a Professor and Director of Legal Studies in the Department of Politics and Government for 23 years. In August 2025, he retired from Illinois State University. In Act III, he devotes his energy to writing, running half marathons, reviewing paralegal education programs across the country on behalf of the American Bar Association, and traveling with his wife, Karen.

Play Synopsis: Sitting in a quirky piña colada bar, Pat meets a couple who display extraordinary memories. Pat tries to exit the bar to go to work but circumstances prevent him from leaving.
